is it just me or do the servers seem dead

Or maybe people knew that their was maintenance going on today, and if it has been over the last couple of days there is a good chance that they gave up trying to get in.... Or simply that you are in areas that are simple quest hubs that no one is really every in for very long.

That's probably because 90% of the server is fate grinding in Mor Dhona and Coerthas at this point. The only places that aren't massively populated are the early 1-20 areas currently.

Sorry Ivy but I think you meant to post this on another MMO forum. Due to AFKers, 1017 full server messages, a miniscule queue system and character creation restrictions you may not be seeing as many people in the zones you're in. Personally I'm in the mid-30's level areas and am still seeing a large number of players.

Somebody hasn't been to Dragonhead or Mor Dhona.

It was tuesday people had to go back to work/school not that makes much of a difference. And some people knew that a big server maintenance was going on today so probably didnt bother to either play or or to log off in a sanctuary/inn for the bonus in the down time.

But i also beg to differ. Yesterday specially. I couldnt even press start in the menu ingame let alone load the server list.. Its still VERY populated and its been out for a week, people are leveled up. normal Beginner areas are not going to be a crowded.

Basically people are spreading out in levels more now. Besides the fact that the servers are always full, i see plenty of people, mostly as others have said in the two popular fate grinding zones, but main cities are packed too. Having people spread out is also good for the servers, as the devs have said with so many people in the same zone, it makes it rougher on the servers and more prone to errors.

Even with all the AFK people Cactuar is still insanely packed. Wall to wall people in the majority of zones.

Lots of people on Ragnarok, so i would say it is just you

Yah the LvL 1 -> 20 areas are ghost towns at least on Gilgamesh.

most of the high/endgame level players hang out in Revenant's Toll, or Dragonhead. So I'm guessing it has more to do with level groups spreading out to content that suits their level.
