How many players are there per server atm? both total and concurrent???

I saw almost 3500 online on FFXI during one of its busiest times. Before a world merge it had dropped to around 1800 I think. The game did have login queues, but I only saw them once or twice over many years. When ToAU hit, we did manage to pack almost 900 into a single zone during the first Besiegeds, but the system operators got really edgy at that point. (They were ejecting people to an adjacent zone, after a stern system message warning of course.)

FWIW, my "whole lot more than 5000" guesstimate above wasn't anywhere near 35000. :)

I don't think blizzard publically says how high their servers can go for concurrent connections, but I'd imagine it's probably around 5k. Most WoW realms don't have close to that on at one time.

The answer to server stress problems is more servers, not trying to max them out higher. If I remember correctly I think XI servers did around 1-2k on average?

Ok they can add more servers but how does that help people like me who are already established on a filled server? Even with the new servers added I'm still trying to log into a filled server. I fail to see how I'm going to benefit from this.

Short answer, it doesn't.

You just have to wait for a week or two past launch when fewer people are trying to log in at the same time.

Edit: and yes, they did say they will raise concurrent caps. But I'm doubtful exactly how much higher that will be, if any. It's not like bam tomorrow it's 10k max.

Over time, slowly, fewer and fewer people will be trying to play at the same time. It's how every MMO launch goes. And then queues and login issues will go away.
