What was so wrong with FFXI when the cap was lvl. 75?
If anything it should have been lower. Getting to 75 was just a pain half the time.
Besides, people complain there is too little content, but now they're complaining there's too much. Funny.

I think it's all a psychological matter among the players.. but it always works :P
Seriously, i also think that the level rise isn't necessary to bring new elements to the game and to make progress the character (merit points in ff11 is a good example). You could add new areas, spells, monsters and stuff without it because in the end the purpouse of a level rise is only a mere 'hp/stats/abilities' rise. And you can create several elements to make raise your character in every way possibile, also remaining to 50 imo.
Personally, now I am approaching cap on Marauder I can honestly say I want more levels. I'm enjoying MRD 10x more at level 49 than I was at level 39 (and that was a lot).
Also, they'll want to keep and even playing field for the PS3 release. I don't think there will be a level cap increase until after that release.
How FFXI content is related to ffXIV content right now ?Quote:

The grind is by far the most boring aspect of any RPG. Are people really that eager to get more of it? Grinding is the only thing to do in XIV at the moment. Grind DoH, grind DoM, grind Dol and then grind quests that are just like leves designed for grinding. Then come back on these forums and ask for more grinding on all of the above.
I'm speechless.
They need to raise the cap eventually. 50 is a bit low.
They have a lot of other things to worry about before that, though.
Horizontal progression is perfect for a game where you can switch class whenever you want. Let them add a new kind of progression, either on top of the armory system or new classes and balance the content once for all at rank 50.
MMO that can raise their level cap and make all their content obsolete every years are only a few. FF14 definitely won't have the development power to do that decently...
Leveling is actually part of what makes an MMO "fun". I've played the "non-grindy" MMOs where there are no levels and it felt so boring. I never realized how much i enjoyed leveling until i played one of those. But that's more along the lines of not having any levels at all.
However, it is a nice feeling not having to worry about a level cap increase at any time.

NOT increasing level cap:
General gameplay elements/strategies are well recognized & adopted
Increasing strength of character through armor/enchants or merit-type systems
Won't have that Lv.99 Final Fantasy feel. (this one is pretty lol, but still)
Is easier to level other classes for abilities
No radical adjustments making it easier for SE to balance new content(dungeons, classes etc).
Newly added abilities would need to come from armor, merit system, new classes or placed as Lv.50 abilities
Increasing level cap:
Staying active through leveling
More abilities for classes
Personal sense of strengthening/increasing your character
Longer grinding to learn other classes' abilities (likely to become very annoying)
More quests based on level.
Conclusion: I'll easily lean towards staying at a set cap.
If they are going to raise the level cap, SE should decide early on what that cap will be. Additionally, they should implement it fairly quick and not stretch it out over years & years.
Either way, it is possible to have both vertical & horizontal progression.
