Like waiting in town for three hours trying to get a party?
There are three things I remember about FFXI: waiting for parties, travelling, and farming/NM camping/mining just to scrape a living.
Party play was a highlight, but then again, camping and pulling got boring fast.
FFXIII failed? sure has a large fanbase for a game that failed - the game averaged 8.5 all across the boards from critics and fans, what a failure! disgusting numbers! and funny, I played FFXIII enough and didn't notice anything similar to FFVII other than that Lightning is an ex-soldier.
Even FOV = guildleves i'm sure we would see even more events from ffxi being put in ffxiv.
There ARE other reviewers other than Gamespot. I will personally go for the aggregates, since it's an averaged out score. And if this counts for anything, Famitsu gave FFXIII a 39/40.
FFXIII was not a failure, by game standards or FF standards, though it was leaning a bit downwards on the latter. Otherwise, it was NOT fail.
The only thing remotely similar to FFVII is the soldier concept. Otherwise, everything was pretty original. I see no characters getting stabbed in the middle of a shrine in FFXIII, nor temples collapsing on themselves, nor aliens drifting from outer space to kill the ancient civilisation.
