Imminent = Likely to occur at any moment.
When I read the title I thought, "Perhaps one of the community reps said something on the Japanese forums."
At least I didn't get my hopes up. I don't believe anything unless SE themselves says it.

Well, the title did do a great job of getting me exited to read the post.
Although I am sad now, I did enjoy the 4 seconds it took me to scroll though the OP for a link.
Edit: Changing to a ! was a terrible idea, your excitement for the upcoming mailbox system fueled my excitement.
I like that they don't have a mail/delivery system in place. The lack of the most basic functionality a half a year after release helps me not get my hopes up about the game. :)
We do need a mailbox item but if you have 10 retainers that are almost full you are just a hoarder and you have a problem! You need to look up the local Doctor Phil on your server and get some help!!
Anyways you have to give them time, with all the crap happening in Japan they are working diligently to get the game fixed so the game will grow and have more people and live/thrive. Let them get the other battle changes and content taking care of first, I am sure they have read enough posts about a mail system and it is probably on their agenda for things to do.
Why do people want a mailbox specifically for the purpose of trading items? Why not just expand retainer functionality?
1) Allow any character on your account to summon any retainer.
2) Allow your retainer to have a 'Delivery' area. You add an item (up to 10, like the other sections; no gil) to this section and then type the name of the character you want it delivered to. Then, that character can summon this retainer like they would their own, except that they can only see/retrieve/add items to the delivery area.
I've always been of the opinion that mailboxes should be for correspondence in games, no item delivery - there are more effective ways of handling the latter than the silly FedEx system we see in many MMORPGs.
Well thats good, maybe SE realizes more people really do Need it asap.
The purpose of sending items is to send items / mats to players that arnt nearby, in another city. so u dont have to waste anima just to deliver some gil, items etc.
People could log off and still expect to get their items when oter player isnt online.
ANd mailbox, well to me it dosent matter if its delivery system or mailbox. Leaving a message with items would be cool i guess.
Take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt please.
BUT SERIOUSLY, f'ing snowflakes from hell. Use the dmn search function if you do not see your topic on the main page of threads. There are several other threads requesting this system.
USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...System-NEEDED-!
This is a perfect example that was created yesterday.
If you search 'Mail' in the system, you get '7' individual threads about mail / delivery boxes, and '5' separate pages of thread results where mail is mentioned. NO HOMEWORK DONE = FAIL

This is a battle that has been fought for far longer than this game has been out. If you want to take up the gauntlet, feel free, but you're only going to make yourself look like an ass in the end, and nothing is going to change. Just general advice. I completely feel for you and it drives me nuts, too, especially since I do my research and find out what I need. Hell, most of the time I don't even need to post, 'cause there are 6 other posts with the answers I want. But....people be lazy. *shrug*
Anyway, as for the mail, I agree completely, and many others from beta onward have also agreed. I'm completely into alts. I like to change up my look every so often. I don't want my huge, built, stunningly good looking Highlander male toting around a staff and fan just 'cause I felt like playing a con one day. I have a character specifically geared towards crafting and one for battling, just to keep them separate in my head so I don't go insane. The system as is makes it ridiculously frustrating to try to get any sort of crafted items to my battle character.
Don't punish alts!
