AoE problem. Again

I live in an area where I only have access to 1 mb internet... I've been a healing burden on a lot of parties because I see the circles after everyone else and the game doesn't know that I've moved out of the circle in time.

Today I'm going to try my tethered phone connection to see if it's any better... But unfortunately for me, unless I move I may spend most of the important fights on my back while my party carries me to victory /sadface

Since the ping is 150 ms (which is the roundtrip time for a signal sent from your computer to server and back), you need in theory to see that you are outside of the AoE area 0.15 seconds before the enemy AoE animation ends or you'll get hit. If you are still getting hit despite being over 0.5 seconds outside of the area before the animation ends, it is indicating that there is probably a bug or unoptimized code involved.

Edit: To elaborate what may be happening: assume that the delay is multiplied by factor 7. Then if you got 150 ms ping, you need to be outside of the AoE for 7*0.150 s = 1.05 seconds before animation ends or you'll get hit; that's hard.

If you got normally 20 ms ping, you would have to be 7*0.020 s = 0.14 seconds outside of AoE before animation ends or you'll get hit: that's doable.

If you got normally 50 ms ping, you would have to be 7*0.050 s = 0.35 seconds outside of AoE before animation ends or you'll get hit: that may be noticable in several cases.

The problem is: why is the code designed in such way that it multiplies the delay so massively? That may be a bug.

There is definitely some sort of AoE bug going on, I have ~90ms ping and I commonly experience getting hit by AoE when I'm clearly outside the red zone, even by a fair distance. It seems worse on some mobs than others, there have been some rare moments where I've made a point of running far outside the AoE and still take damage from it.

It's a latency issue, if it was an actual bug there would be 1000's more complaining about it like they did in p3 - I've had 0 issues with it since then. I have a 16 ping though.

It -could- be latency, but I have an "excellent" connection to the Balmung server and it still happens to me. Haven't looked at my ping when that happens, but I'd say I'm definitely below 50 on any given day.

I can run WAY outside of an AoE the moment I see it and still take damage when it goes off, that's not a latency issue if I have time to run that far and still take the hit. 90ms ping is a pretty good connection as well.

I've mainly experienced it while doing my hunting logs, don't think it's ever happened to me in an instance.

As for me- I know 1 thing: the game mechanics in case of AoE is still inaccurate even when develorers fixed it- fixed, but not at all. While playing the game I want to fight whith mobs and bosses and I don't want to "fight" with in-game technical problems. I'm sure in my skills, but they can not save me some times- it is not my fault, but fault of game code or whatever. I'm sad because of it

Going to point something out.

there is a feature in aoe attacks that im going to dub for this explanation-attack lock. There is a point between the start of the aoe and the attack itself after the circle disappears in which youll the atack will "lock-on" per say. At that point, it doesnt matter if you are out of the circle-zone or not. You'll be hit with the attack. I've seen that most victims of attack lock are those that try to finish casting/attacking before moving. Its matter of not moving to beat the attack lock timer.

Now I will say that attack lock can be frustrating/unforgivable at times. there are some monsters with an aoe circle big enough to where you have to move as soon at it shows or youll be locked. Now if you're out of the circle and its still up for a tiny bit, then that is probably not attack lock, but instead a bug. If you move out of range as the circle vanishes or vanishes immediately after you move out of range, thats attack lock.

latency issue is killing me in this game, literally..
I cant do fights which has instant death attacks like titan's now, I hope the make it so the red circle recognized client side rather than server side.

this.. you still have to get out of it in time. you cant stand there finish casting your spell then move you still be hit. theirs no oh that was close you need to drop what your doing and move
