Alt-tab from fullscreen

Please add this, I'd like to be able to play full screen.

Heck, I'd like to be able to have windowed full screen. While I'm aware there are methods for a "pseudo form" of it, I'm not keen on having to download extra programs for this.

Unless theres huge problems with adapting the game engine to it then they should, all other PC games allow it. Also if your running an SLI or crossfireX setup you need to be in full screen for it to work properly which is just another reason why it should be added

Problem is, this "pseudo form" (Not really pseudo, since it's very much real), is going to be your only option for a while. Not sure if anyone remembers the full screen frustrations of XI, but considering the issues in-game I wouldn't bet on having this feature until the full overhaul is finished first.

I don't think anyone expects this right away anyways. :3
I have a feeling if they're able to, they will allow us to alt-tab eventually. Especially with Yoshida-san in charge now.

I'm not sure if this is allowed as it's "technically" third-party software, but it's a safe, harmless way to make windowed mode work. If you download a program called AutoHotkey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) you can force the game into borderless fullscreen windowed mode. Dual monitor users (like myself) pretty much have to look to a solution such as this.

It doesn't hook or anything so it doesn't modify the game whatsoever, it's purely a windows macro program, if you google ffxiv autohotkey you can find the script to run to make your window borderless and fullscreen, and it works with other games and programs as well, it's really nice even outside of ffxiv.

Hopefully SE does fix this at some point but for now I think the autohotkey solution works really well.

I don't know how this change ranks among the devs (I won't assume), but if it is not a very time intensive change, should really be a high priority item. Removing the borders in windowed mode would as good to me.

To those running a dual GPU set up, how much performance difference are you seeing between windowed and full screen modes? I don't recall seeing any benches for it recently, just curious.

I would also like this feature to be implemented at some point. As others have said Shiftwindow is a temp option for now if you want to play fullscreen while in windowed mode.

I know in the dev team shake up Yoshi brought in some people specifically to sort out the game code and games stability and they already said they are at work optimising the game so hopefully this will be added at some point.

We spoke with the dev. team to find out what's being planned in regards to being able to alt-tab out of fullscreen and they said that they are looking into it, but that it'll take some time to address.
