Free jumping like Mario or Ys makes no sense in a world that isn't designed to be explored through jumping, "Zelda styled" solves the needs of any kind of jump mechanic if at all needed.
i dont want to be bombarded by menus when i want to jump, i dont want the game to control my experience by auto jumping, i want to be in control of what my character does. Jumping doesnt have to be annoying, ffxiv uses realistic animations, and believe it or not, jumping is realistic, go outside and try it, i dare you. hell even "unrealistic" jumping is possible. Youtube the word "parkour"
Fact is, people that want jumping, dont exclusively want it to scale small ledges. we want it because it does ADD more to a game if the developers allow it so. believe it or not, 3D games have three dimensions. X. Y. Z. One's depth, one's width, the other is height.
The current terrain is based only around X and Y travel, making it seem VERY linear, cause it is. Add a new dimension. and you have a whole new element to gameplay, to think otherwise is simple and utter close-mindedness and a failure to think outside of what you're used to in this game.
I never seen any hopper in any MMO. why ppl afraid of them while they're not exist?
every game I played they're free jump and no one jumping around the town for no reason
Actually this is false.
I can make a demo of a game right now that lets you jump to your hearts content..but what will you do if I don't make the world explorable by jumping? Let enemy moves be avoidable by jumping? Scaling cliffs (some MMOs with jump you still can't scale everything)?
Merely adding jump does nothing unless the developers already designed the world to make use of it, which in XIV, it is not designed for it.
From the (About Jumping) thread, and by far the most sense I've seen made on the subject. If it is implemented as nothing more than a way of expressing yourself, all you have to do is add a filter to block the motion from being displayed. The people that want to jump around like bunnies as well as the players who do not want to see everyone jump around like hyped up children would be satisfied.
Paraphrasing Yoshi's post on the matter:
This should be a low priority with how many other things need fixing, but personally I do believe the world feels a little stiff. The arguement that players wanting to be expressive are stupid in and of itself is a statement made in ignorance. It's a game it's meant to be enjoyable. The arguement that the only people vying for jumping as a form of expression are a few (stupid) kids who want to act like monkies, has no backing to it. If it was such a moot point from a small handful of players the dev team would never have put this subject on the development board to begin with.Quote:
Hi everyone, this is Producer/Director Yoshida!

I believe that jumping as a form of expression, which allows the player to indicate the location of NPCs and also to inform others of meeting locations, will be able to be used in many subtle ways.
However comments such as "Aesthetically, the game will be ruined by everyone jumping around," and "It’s not FINAL FANTASY," and other comments were a bit unexpected, so I decided to add these types of comments into our discussion as well.
Though the idea of jumping was based on wanting to reduce the feeling of being tied to the ground, I will continue to evaluate whether or not this should be implemented by following along with your discussions and comments!

Long story short if they still implement it, all they have to do is add filters to the animations and everyone is happy.
Uh. Last I checked We moved in XYZ in XIV without needing Jump. Tunnels, Cliffs, Branching Paths, Thats all XYZ.
Being Restricted to Two would mean we were playing something like Mario. Elevation changes without Jump.
Adding Jump causes a breakdown in the limitation and immersion of the game. Not because of people jumping up and down like idiots. But because There will still be invisible walls and places you are not meant to go even with Jumping. And jumping into an Invisible wall is worst then not having jump at all. Ask the people who played New Vegas.
im in the i really dont give a crap club they put it in fine they dont really care it kinda not on top of list of game changes that need happen( dont miss read that im very happy with changes that have happen and are planed in next coming updates) i see good things from it an bad but at end of day i could careless
I hope the jump feature is still coming. Honestly I'm hoping it's in the other 30% of the content that was supposed to be in this patch but will end up in 1.17a. That'd be rad.
We still cant fall into the bottomless pits yet. Still needs work.
