There is an EXP bonus for it and the achievements grant an additional EXP bonus. Isn't the treasure map system still planned as well? I assume there is a title as well.
P.s. this world is gorgeous exploration can be its own reward too. Also the WOW stick goes both ways- all the requests here aren't for neat little side areas so much as "da loot". Which makes it just another task.
I feel that this is a result of gaming giving rewards, achievements and throwing things in player's faces at every opportunity for every small thing that the player does. Personally, existing in the world and searching the area, looking around corners and discovering the little aspects put into every part of the world is enough reason for me to look around all facets and aspects.
