I had this same problem. Looked at this thread, and downloaded newest version of CCleaner to see if that would do anything, but without actually doing anything different I tried opening the launcher and it worked first time. Weird.

From what I am finding: http://frontier.ffxiv.com/arr_win/in...?rc_lang=en-us is a website that interacts with the launcher. If you go to this website directly, it should be a black screen. On mine PC it was. If it isn't and the site returns the error, then the launcher isn't able to reach the website and hence getting kicked back out.
Remedy: Gotta wait. Refresh the website. When it becomes a normal webpage, launch the launcher.
When you're getting launcher errors, the best way to solve it without costing you a lot of time is downloading CCleaner and having it clean out your cache. Worked for me every time.
Got a similar one. The game just crashed and when I try to relog, the user/pasword box are invisible in the black screen. After a while I got this error (a system error has occurred:408.) followed by a square website. Tried Ccleaner, go directly to the website like Ididrius say, restarted the router, restarted the pc.... Nothing seems to work
Seriously....
After tried for 1h to relog I finally manage to get in, now i got the lovely rutine error and this error appears again.
If there isnt the rutiner error, is the server lag and the bad ping, ppl getting haked, goldsellers spam, servers overpopuled and more ... Theres no way to play properly like this.
I just hope that all this mess will be fixed on next patch......
I had the Error 400 blahblahblah when trying to start the launcher as well. Not sure if its all cases but if you are running a browser addon like Noscript you need to make sure its not blocking ffxiv.com. Once I allowed that site the error went away.
NoScript is a Firefox plugin, the Launcher uses an embedded copy of Internet Explorer, NoScript isn't involved, it was coincidence that caused the effect you see.
Bump, cause this error still happens
