Creative threads with constructive ideas and suggestion are always great to read, but they don't get noticed very easily. Glad you like it Moth, plants are a botanist's "bread and butter" as the saying goes. lets hope someday we get the butter ^^ :).

i love the idea of planting, and greenhouses , also love the idea of meeting up with the elemental s.

Also with botanist, you are carrying an ax but yet,, you cant attack a monster with it lol, i know if i was in the woods, with a brass axe, and a monster came at me, id chop that thing in half.

To fight or not to fight that is the question, a hatchet or an axe both are used for shaving wood and cutting beasties, it all depends on what the tool is used for current for (botanist only use hatchet for gathering). Using it to kill beasts? not to sure about that one, but now that you bring up the subject Koonta maybe it could also be used to Protect Ourselves if its truly needed; as an *action/ability that could added to Botanist's defensive/offensive ability, and probably for the other DoL classes as well. But also using it in that way could be infective (*a tool for gathering degrades faster compared to tools of battle, and other things*) since Botanists are not really meant for battles. The Action/Ability>"Wrist Flick" come to mind since it is along the same line. This could opening up new possibilities, running away won't be the only thing botanist's could do try at least to Defend Yourself from aggressive attackers if need be.

Things such as greenhouses are an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how often I'd use it.. I also love the idea of a basket.
If Botanists had a greater impact on the environment then it'd be more fun! For instance, lets say an area in the black shroud loses some greenery/dies/becomes brown, etc. It could be a botanists job to go there, plant new seeds, or just in general take care of the area?

And this may not even have to be a quest, it can be an open world thing that occurs so everything can witness the changes that botanists make. (I apologize if this was already mentioned on the thread, but I'm a slow reader and skim things uber fast)..

In conclusion, this would make botanists feel more wanted in the world probably. Cuz as of know, I just harvest some logs and *sometimes* trade them to my friends who *sometimes* need them :-/ That's about all I do as a botanist..

Note: Also! Similar things can happen with other fieldcraft too, like maybe there's too much fish in a pond and fisherman have to clear it out, or some rockslide occurs somewhere and a miner needs to help clean it up? Who knows.

Yes, its one of the main concerns for the botanist class that there isn't much verity with gathering locations and other things. Also a lack of uniqueness leaving nothing much to do after gathering; (a good example: after gathering from a location gatherers must leave the area admittedly after because a pack of animals are approaching. if only in my dreams)

Gathering from monsters ( Plant-like Beasts) : There are 2 types that could be implied from what I can think of.

(Example 1)
-Savaging Beasts after they have been defeated.
What happens when a DoL gathers from a defeated Beast?
Obviously its not possible for us gatherers to kill them with our gathering tools so let the DoW/DoM do away with the beast. First monster doesn't disappear within a few seconds after it is defeated, Secondly a Botanist can or must then extract all materials, then only then does it disappear, and possibly Third the beast becomes solid when savaging it's parts and showing animation of the savage.
(Example 2)
-Assignment of Specific Beast for DoL Classes Only *like Botanist by themselves. (*Think is I've felt it for awhile now that some creatures of Eorzea probably shouldn't be on the hunting list at all.)(maybe because they're too cute)

What could happen? [after trimming a little off the top it grows back easily overtime]
Options:
A.) Beastie doesn't like it and shakes you off by running away.
B.) It didn't like it, roars to provoking you to back-off.
C.) It become furious and kills you.
D.) It Eats You! :eek:
E.) While gathering from beasties you lost Materials, HP, SP etc. (it could happen, and it puts a degree of risk in gathering).
F.) It lets you gather from it with little complaint. :)

Hasty Hand for BTN 50. 0 SP but you clear the node with a single 'whooosh' ninja maneuver of your hatchet. Would burn through your gathering points and put you in fatigue quicker, but at least you could fill orders in a timely fashion and have time to sit down and craft, or kill things.

Currently I'm spending hours and hours each day trying to supply linkshell people with materials, and I find it hard to balance that time with home life. A hasty hand ability would probably solve that for me without introducing any influx of items into the game.

It couldn't introduce an influx of item because fatigue is still there, which prevents it. All I'm asking is to be able to hit fatigue sooner, and get the items for other players sooner. Hell, it could even come with a 0% chance of getting HQ items.

Sharing abilities from crafting classes Mmmm... I guess it might be okay because it's stated as DoL/DoH. My only thought/worry is from your post I can only see that your focus is Crafting Primary and Botanist Secondary(*nothing wrong with that), don't get me wrong I know it can't be helped that Botanist current role is only to chop trees. I'm very glad SE Devs turned Botanist=gathering into a class of its own, the think is it can be much more, I think botanist can stand on its own as part of (dol); breaking the current limitation we place on things, and like other threads I've read they also want improvements toward DoL Gathering in general. so to sum up your suggestion could start something and I can see it as a win-win that helps.
sorry I ranted for a bit there...

Hasty Hand for BTN 50? well lets say I'm a rank 26 BTN so I've got to wait until R50 to get it? what would be the lowest optimal rank? maybe if it could be brought with BTN Guild points reward of an NPC someday in the future. If we're discussing crafting then I think it should be dependent towards crafters to learn the abilities then use them, Usable Abilities Cross-Classes has its good parts and bad parts but at least DoL/DoH would have that option available .

Overall I see a few problems but it could work, something would be done to adjust things ... also if 1 ability like Hasty Hand is implied then naturally the other abilities would soon follow... then depending on many other factors (market system, inventory, etc.. ) adjustments, then a link between class abilities that might be better that how I see it.

Botanist: Hasty Hand Activates for While your Gathering *Shine

-the mini game is forgo then switching to an automatic continuous chops mode, until all is gathered from a grade tree. (well the Fatigue system is said to be removed, but we're talking about the current now)
-hit a tree only one time yielding many materials all at once, no mini-game, and higher possibility of obtaining nothing at all.

(*Abilities!)-
What about that movement speed buff that we'd get from Triangulate's it could be adjusted. Thing is I've been thinking about this since the release of ffxiv around October. Having used it once then the thought came to mind, "the time and usage should be extended from what it is..."

For example: Extension Triangulate I: 1 minute, Triangulate II: 2 minute, Triangulate III: 3 minutes, Triangulate IV: 4 minutes, Triangulate V: 5 minutes, etc (*special effects, greater speeds increase, the cool-down timer increased as well to balance things. Not only could it be used for traveling to grade trees far away also for gathering purposes to.) :) I'm hoping it gets more impact with the coming patch that the devs said they are reworking the abilities for all classes, I can only hope that might being to solve things without having to get abilities from other classes just yet, that way DoL stays unique and can grow someday.

:)Edit: An Update is HERE!:)Gathering options for F Key Action Mode: give it a purpose for gathering, at present when activated nothing happens.

Suggestions: when pressing the F key on the Keyboard Character Activities or gains Gathering Search Features.

(example 1)
Gathering Mode: The grade trees, all that are within range of characters sight, lighting will brighter and flows stronger. Gathering from grade trees without much interference everything else becomes Shaded; Non-grade trees, Rock, Waters, monsters, Players, etc .

(example 2)
Hidden View Scan: See Eorzea differently then before, gathering areas become more visible, when exploring for materials even see hidden treasure chests laying about, and more wondrous things.

(example 3)
Hawk Eyes: see gathering spots yards or miles away, from both Previous gathered point and Next gathering point or beyond that to distance lands.
