As mentioned you only get normal drops on mobs that are originally tagged by you. (the name will be red) and if you do enough damage.
You can get 10?xOrange Juice as a reward from a sidequest; can't remember which one, though, but available at every starting city most likely - got one at Ul'dah on Beta Test Phase 3 and another one at Limsa Lominsa on Beta Test Phase 4.
Note for newcomers: You need 1 Orange Juice in order to complete the sidequest that grants you the ability to dye gear. Once completed, you'll find the ability at Actions & Skills menu (General tab IIRC).
For fates...as a conj or acn....I didn't have thm up to try it but as long as I casted aero or I forget the acn dot and it at least proc one time then I would get credit for that fate. Many times I arrived right when the fate was ending and I only got 1 proc off and would still get silver/gold for that fate. I believe the monster still has to die for you to get credit though.
this is important for those wanting to level their second classes as learning to run large chains of mobs for xp as well as chaining as many fates as possible is important. Also for the conjurors out there you can chain heals out to your fates to also take advantage of this and get xp that way. very helpful since the cast time vs dmg a conjuror does is pitiful in fate situtions but the heals help counter that.
And for those that like the "solo" feeling good luck. the fastest experience besides the main storyline I found during beta was getting a group of 4 (tank, 2dps, heal) and keeping your xp chain bonus alive and hitting any fates that pop up nearby.
I got my acn and gld from 10-15 from just fates outside horizon. I stopped gld at 15 and got acn up to 20 from just those fates and while I was waiting for fates to appear I just started mining right outside and crafting ores. I got my carpenter up to 19 and blacksmith around 15 or so I believe from just those wait times.
fates are quite amazing at leveling you. ill probably end up doing a ton while I raise botany and lvl an archer but I just really want to get my scholar going first before I go back to craft.
Fates as a caster can be frustrating due to casting time. In beta 2 I didn't know about getting exp/credit off other players mobs till last couple of days. So I didn't do fates as casting time is so slow by time it casted mob was dead. Phase 3 and 4 I knew better and had fun doing them. Would cast any instant dot from conj or arcan tab to next mob cast again and continue this way. For some I could even run right up in middle of bunch of mobs and cast aoe depending on fate level. Higher level ones aoe can work lower the mobs die to fast. Only get bronze if I come at very end
as a thaum fates are easy just aoe the crap out of most of them. as my arcanist my carbuncle helped with most of it. healer until I started healing was a pain.
Is the 30% rule just when your solo and some one else jumps in or does it apply to parties also?
At least the good part of this system is that people can't annoy you calling KS, like other MMOs
