I hope so. During Open Beta I did my best to get ready to unlock Summoner! ;)

summoner is looking to be a great all rounder class, which is a great thing. for example, during the one dunegon I managed to do during phase 4 our tank dropped. so I took over as tank for the boss fight... and topaz did it like a boss

I see that Ramuh, Leviathan, Shiva are probably being added soon as summoned pets... any chance we can round it out w/ Diablos?

Anyone know how many different summons, Summoner gets? I haven't found any info on that.

Sustain has been incredibly helpful. Especially with Topaz and solo quests. :D

Just the three for now it looks like.

I like the idea of summoner being able to fill the role of off-tank. Whether for tanking adds during a fight or pulling adds to the main tank, I think it's an interesting role to have for a caster. In the first couple dungeons, I was able to use super carbuncle for just that (and if the tank died). The casting time isn't terrible compared to a dead healer due to adds, and later in the game positioning may be important enough that the tank won't be able to turn a certain mob.

As they raise the level cap/come out with more expansions, Shiva, Ramuh, & Leviathan Egis are supposed to be added. What they do, who knows, but so far, Egis share several moves with their XI counterparts.
For example, Shiva Egi may know Sleepga, Leviathan Egi may know Spring Water (AoE Cure + Esuna), and Ramuh Egi... idk Lightning Armor (AoE Shock Spikes, lightning dmg + chance of stun when you get hit), Rolling Thunder (AoE Enthunder), or maybe Shocking Squall (I forgot the name, but it's AoE Stun). Atm it seems Garuda Egi = caster DPS pet (similar to Emerald 'buncle), Ifrit Egi = melee DPS pet, and we already know Titan Egi = Topaz 2.0 (Makes sense, Emerald = Green, Garuda = Green, Topaz = Yellow, Titan = Yellow).

wasn't mentioned that by reaching ACN lvl 50 you unlock both SMN and SCH? now i'm confused
