I played Thm in the Closed Beta and didn't like how it played. So I switched to Conj and loved the difference. I had my Elemental spells and decent heals. In XI I had started on Whm and didn't mind healing people but I still felt left out; not being able to do damage to the mob with everyone. Now on XIV I don't have that issue of feeling left out.

I picked CON because I really enjoy healing, and based of skills con was better suited for healing, but also could nuke and DD, basically a RDM. However the range for heals is not that great for them and it is much better on THM. However I did not pick CON first when I started the game, I picked lancer, now that is my lowest battle class.(22 lol) Kinda went the opposite direction, but CON was my first 50 and still glad I ranked it to 50 first.

I chose this class for the ability to cure and buff. The ability to use the elemental spells as well, as Ranka said, gives it a RDM feel and is the feel I'd like to stick with ^^

I'm one of those strange people that actually really enjoyed being a White Mage in XI...watching health bars, scanning the log for undesirable stats to remove -- it sounds so boring, but I loved supporting a team of friends! :) Since this class had "Cure" listed as one of the spells I figured that I could work it around into being some sort of a healer. I hope that Blindna and erase come around sometime in the future because those sure would be helpful. :)

I choose conjurer because I like the idea of killing many enemies in a instant. ;)

I chose conjurer because I wanted to use it as a backbone for my other jobs. Initially I was just going to level it a little, but I really became attached to all the different ways I could play it. I like the versatility of healing, debuffing, dd'ing, and supporting with buffs. Having a high mage job available is never a bad thing either!

I originally picked conj because it seemed to be a much stronger healer than THM(protect/shell felt required, mainly shell, it used to be completely insane magic DR). I wanted to be a SCH again, which was my main in FF11. After leveling it and playing this game, I quickly became disappointed with conj, it was boring, easy, and nothing like SCH at all.
I miss my stratagems, I miss having to kite, I miss matching nukes with weather, I miss klimaform, I miss my weather buffs, I miss my CC(gravityga/sleepga/bindga), I miss dark/light arts, I miss R2, I miss RR2. Conj was a huge let down to me in every way imaginable. SCH took so much concentration to play, I was constantly challenged and always having fun. From healing parties/events, to nuking, to kiting NM's and soloing them, to nuking puddings solo, to nuking in events, to nuking nms, to lowman kiting/nuking, etc :(
I leveled archer instead, and now I'm waiting for the combat system revamp + job system + armory system revamp before I touch my mages again.

I wanted to play a healer.
The nukes were simply a bonus. I find that in end-game scenarios (HNM) I have great spells but lack Thaumaturge range. Though, solo & SP grind I almost never healed and relied solely on elemental weaknesses. I actually liked this kind of versatility because it allowed me to level in my own way, but come to the goal I intended which was to heal.
I'm currently leveling Thaumaturge to 50 and may switch to it as my "Main" for the range, but I'll still be healing and using primarily Conjurer spells and abilities. I doubt my action bar will change much at all, in fact. I simply prefer the Cone AOE and its range (though I originally "lol" at this type of AOE and saw it as useless - how nearsighted I was).

I can see we all have played Conjurer for different reasons. It's very interesting to see all the responses. I hope the dev team takes this into account when planning future adjustments.

I wanted to be a super awesome black mage lol, but the outfits are bland, the shoes are gay, in every sense of the word, the "epic" fireballs, ice-spikes, lightning bolts, upturned earth, etc... from other final fantasy series have essentially been reduced to tiny sparklers where even with the doubled size from the recent patch they still don't seem the least bit powerful or destructive, almost all the staves are literally just sticks with no personality or awesome factor to them whatsoever, and our primary armor types are robes and hooded robes, we basically get 2 sets of gear for all 40 levels and only color variations to them.
at this point Conjurers are the very definition of the word bland, and I hope that changes soon, but from what i can tell the only change we have to look forward to in the near future is that one class specific set of gear that makes us look like a black mage, and neat-o though it may be, I'm not looking forward to a thousand "black mages" running around looking even more identical than before.
