Yes, I was one of the few who stuck around until the very last day. Even though no progress was saved I still had fun with the JP players. They seemed to be the only ones online.

How many games do you know of that completely rebuilt the game, almost from the ground up, including brand-new server architecture, new database management and such... and had to copy over 100s of thousands of characters - perfectly - from the old DB to the new one, making sure everything copied over to the new engine/technology intact and performs correctly?
I don't think there's been any others... at least not that I know of. So, to say "I have never heard of any game doing this" isn't particularly saying much. What do you compare it against?
I've never heard of a MMORPG being almost completely (90%) rebuilt from the ground up, either. I imagine that would make way for a number of "firsts", or at least very rare situations.
I'm gonna go with yes and my original post wasn't going off NDA violations but interviews and videos but better safe than sorry.
I think it was definitely too soon since ARR was obviously nowhere near ready for anything that might have required the old character data. Looks like that may not be needed until May.
I know Darkfall did it. Not sure if they carried old characters into the revamped game, but they scrapped their original Darkfall game and rebuilt it.
Darkfall players only went 1 week without their game, then it went into closed beta which is several months long and unrestricted.
Noooooooooo. No no no no NO NO NO NO NO.
The world ended and we were all sent into some sort of space-time crystalline void thingamabob for 5 years.
Not really much to do game-update wise... unless you want more wind physics while we float around in limbo, or run around a white void Final Fantasy VIII-style. Or the ability to catch time carp.
...
Damn it, now I want to fish for time carp in the Void. ffffff Move along thread, don't mind me.
