"Whilst" is an acceptable word for the British and Australian members, the Americans and Canadians won't be caught saying it though.

I use it on occasion. Usually when I feel like it sounds better in the scenario.

I'm an American and use it too. Not as much as our British and Australian friends. I use it on formal documents I write.
