Materia

Definitely in favor of dropped materias. I'm not sure higher stats should be the way though. For me It would be fair enough even if "normal" materia could be dropped. (Ex: Touch Of Rage IV, Hell's Eye IV, etc.)
In future Yoshi-P could add even some Job Specific Materia that grants WS or ability, I don't know. :P

About combining Low Tier Materia, I'm not sure if it should be predictable (Craft) or lucky based (Meld), but for sure it will help to take them away from our invetories!

It would be really cool to see these ideas implemented. I think there should also be materia that only drop as t1 versions so that you have to combine them to get higher tier ones. It would help keep low-level and mid-level content alive.

The craft would have to be balanced in aspect of the tier above it's rate. A pyramid structure works well and is quite famous.

3 tier 1 = 1 tier 2, 3 tier 2 = 1 tier 3, ect ect.

In this way it would take you 27 tier 1s to make 1 tier 3. Play with the conversion a little bit to make sure its just as or more likely less efficient then making it the usual way and your golden.

Yeah, I know that would upset the balance of fights hehe, and therefore would probably not even be considered, but it would be sweet!!

On Topic:

I do love the idea of rare materia drops from Bosses or NMs. Also being able to combine lower materia to create higher tiers is nice as well. Good idea OP!

With that being said why not have two different ones make up something totally new. Take 3 of this one and 3 of that one to make a new materia. This will continue to keep the materia going in the market instead of just being dumped to an NPC.

Another idea would be to take the materia and do the 3x t3 bloodthirst materia and add three t1 materia + some crystals to make a new one. Also you can add the ones from the drops to be able to transform them into something really rare. Like take 1 dropped materia and put together a t1, t2, and t3 to make a new one. These would all be great ideas to keep the lower ones going in the market. This is very similar to the concept in FFXI with the NPC gate guard gear.

Marvellous idea!

I thought it would be nice to be able to "purify" or "combine" materia back in 1.x sometime but didn't mention it. Good stuff to bring it up ! I would definitely love to see this. Maybe an alchemy synth - highest tier being a lvl 40+ synth, and going down from there.

About combining lower tiers , there are many other threads on it that existed since materia came out. They have probably already made their mind up on it since those ideas existed a long time ago.

About unique,stronger materia as a boss drop: it might work if it doesn't make existing materia obsolete. The existing materia are a way to remove old equipment from the game, much like soulbound gear (untradable on equip).

Maybe have it meld to a exclusive slot that most materia can't meld to e.g. Accessory,
or make them only situationally good e.g. increased stun duration on HANDS (dps slot).
