Not so prior, but they already added Jump feature, so I'm in favour of new and original ones. What I hope, is that PC version won't be nerfed cause of PS3 and its memory limitations.

Gangnam style! (Not my vid)
Yep, if it costs too much for development it may not be worth it.
I'm just influenced by Xenoblade so much right now since I'm playing it every night and the zone had this place you climb up (the one in the vid) I was like "holy sh**" when I got up and looked over the ledge. Wish that game was done in other consoles with better rendering, than Wii. FFXIV ARR with that much environment, beauty, with that character graphics would be perfect if they can pull it off. I'm just thinking too far ahead maybe, YoshiP was talking to go either Sky or Underwater in expansion, and for Sky, say in XI Tu'lia... what if you were able to climb the ivy walls while you see clouds onthe bottom... It reminds me of anime Laputa - AKA Castle in the Sky
This, I don't want to see PS3 holding FFXIV development in any ways... It's going to be FFXI and PS2 limitations all over again.
I would really like to see ledge jumping as well, rather then my character to get 90% of their body over the ledge and then fall down, grab the damn ledge you bahamut slaying noob lol.
I think you could make some mounts climb, that would be really interesting to see. I imagine hooked claw mounts and hand mounts could climb, goobbues lanky arms and heavy center of mass probably excluded though lol.
For jumping while climbing I would like to see something I suggested previously for fall damage in the first place:
Jump toggle: 3 options
Basic Safety:
When you go to jump off something that will be a drop (like a cliff) the game calculates fall damage, if you would receive more then 50% fall damage the game will prevent you from going over the cliff unless you hold a safety unlock like shift, so shift + W + spacebar = I accept I will likely get hurt or even die.
Sensitive:
You cannot jump off any cliff of a distance greater then what it would take to jump back up (so small ledges excluded but ledges of a distance that you couldnt jump back up to are included - even though they wouldn't cause any damage). You have to use the safety combo, "special button (shift?)" + directional + spacebar to jump off. A good option to prevent accidental jumps or walk offs in battles (though bosses push back spells should still push you off the ledge, since that has to do with the boss not you).
Unlocked:
You jump, you jump. No combos no safety nets.
With this you could tack on climbing, the default choice should be Basic Safety or Sensitive - so you either wont die from accidents or you wont even be able to "accidently" jump off.
I definitely support climbing in ARR. I hate it when I see a ladder that leads up to some really nice view, but my character can't climb it. Adding climbing opens up the possibility of having all sorts of interesting vertical elements in the game world.
Being perfectly honest, I would have preferred climbing to jumping. I just never felt that jumping was a necessary feature.
To me, jumping seems like a bit of a hack to solve problems with small obstacles, things that are maybe waist-high on the character. Once the devs iterated on the terrain collision, I stopped feeling like there were too many annoying obstacles in the world, since most low-level obstacles could simply be walked over.
Climbing, on the other hand, feels much more like a natural interaction with the world. But I understand (probably better than most of the people on this forum) just how much work goes into implementing climbing: animations dealing with various heights of obstacles and different methods of climbing (for instance, you climb a ladder in a manner substantially different from how you climb a steep hill), marking terrain or objects as climbable by various modes, adding splines to the world to when you want very specific climbing paths, etc., etc. It's a lot of effort, whereas jumping is not nearly so much (though jumping is non-trivial in plenty of its own ways).
people don't even like jumping, so why would they like climbing? :p
i would like to see climbing, swimming, flying etc. would be awesome to swim around sunken ruins etc.
I'm really not into the whole turning FFXIV into an action genre game (FF: Tomb Raider edition? No thanks). However, I wouldn't mind if there were specific areas where certain vines, ladders or such existed in order to access further areas, as previous Final Fantasies have had.
This is not about making it action, more of actual RPG being able to do more realistic things than just walking/running/jumping. I don't want players to have it made where players need to know have some super mario skills. YoshiP also said he doesn't want that with jumping as it will leave some of the players unplayable because they may be not good at action games. Same thing here.
You got a ladder in town, camps... why the hell can't you go up and check out the view?
Same thing for rock climbing, look at how it can change the feel of you actually adventuring through ruins and caves?
All I'm asking for is instead of making a open passage where you can just walk, just make it a wall and make it look like you're actually climbing up/down/across. It just gives that feeling.
I do not care about climbing.
