[DEV question] Why cant we change Alpha application answers?

I meant unless I forgot they use a web app to check all the computer data. You can intercept that data if you really wanted and knew how. But most wont, and even if you intercepted the data you wont know if you changed it to something SE wanted or not.

No webapp can check your OS and hardware details. You need ActiveX or Java for that, in order to run the checks locally on the client. Web browsers haven't been able to access or send those kinds of details for decades.

That's right, but it also doesn't stop people from thinking different answers would have been better. There's no point in changing your app after the fact because you don't know that your answers are what kept you from getting in or got you in. Most likely they simply took a broad sample of those that were close to what they wanted, and randomly selected from those. It's not like having the "optimal" app would have guaranteed your acceptance.

what website today *doesn't* use one of these things on its pages? JavaScript alone can do it, not just Java program.

W.e you want to call it. You are talking about unimportant syntax to this discussion. A application, from / ran from the web fills in the computer information for you.

But there is plenty of reason to update. You change your computer you dont have that old system anymore - you are lying now on your application to SE.

If se wanted your system specs for a test and you dont have them anymore that is bad on SE. It is better they let you update. You can try to 'lie' but you could have lied in the first place, and no one knows what the winning combination is - so attempting to lie is a waste of time.

Updating your app is more honest then not.

Didnt i mention "Change Hardware specifications of the application"? i'm pretty sure i did just earlier, just didnt on the main post. But on the main post all i talk about is hardware specifications, so i though it was pretty obvious that's the only part i'm talkin about mostly.

They only told us one of the things they been taking into consideration mostly the computer specifications

You shouldn't have signed up in the first place if you knew you were getting a new computer in the very near future.

Unless you were doing the app on a machine with absolutely no chance in hell of running the game (because it couldn't run 1.0 FFXIV either) then you really have nothing to worry about. They need people with all different kinds of hardware. telling them your new better hardware vs your old worse hardware isn't going to affect your chances. And as others have noted, PC specs are just one of the factors.

Seriously guys, just sit all your butts down and wait for the beta. It will be a lot more polished and functional then anyway. The alpha has next to no content and a level limit of 20. it's a TEST for a reason.

Dude, code that your browser executes, and code that has to be executed by your OS are not the same. It's not "unimportant syntax." There is a world of difference between the two with vastly different challenges in terms of development and release/usage.

No telling people they cant change their hardware is ridiculous.

And why do you care so much if you think any hardware is good enough. "I am here to say no, but I really dont think it matters"

Its not about updating to a stronger PC so they give you higher chances - its about being honest and accurate.

Who is going to care about that difference when they dont know it. The point is the web starts an app (therefore it is a web app) that checks your system specs. You can't fake the system specs unless you really have that system or you cant intercept the information. Its unimportant syntax you are arguing.
