Not worried people will come and go, the game is free and when they make the game more interesting people will come back. SE released FFXIV a year or 2 too early so don't be surprised if it takes them that long to get the game to where it needs to be.
One thing i learned about MMO's and games in general is it currently takes a long long time to develop a game that meets the current markets standard.
But SE will do it because MMO's are highly profitable after 4-5 years, and if they don't turn this game around they are going to lose alot of reputation. This is just my opinion

Several servers are in the same state if not all of them. They should seriously consider a merging the servers. Like they did with FFXI and say what servers will merge with what servers and what server will keep its name.
-
Although a server merge would be nice for the people still playing, it would be counter productive for SE because it would take away from development time and after a few updates get pumped out and people start returning they would have to reopen some of the closed ones. I doubt we would see a merge, however nice it would be.
-
Merging servers is also bad publicity, unless it's in a game's later years like XI currently. It sends a message that the game is dying.
-
I agree for the most part. But the game is dying and it is trying to be salvaged. It already has very bad publicity and one would think people would be more inclined to rejoin the game from an existing account if they knew that their server wasn't a ghost town.
-
Server looks like it took a 15-20% pop decline in the break to me. Inevitable consequence. Probably won't get all of those back until we get a hit regarding content update. It is what it is. Can't merge. Can't do anything but get back to work.
-
the point they are at "saving the game" witch as we all know, yet hate to admit, server merg would be good for us bad for game over all, they need to release content asap, a big patch would bring a lot back, that is about it, new team said they where doing this and that, i know, probably more then most, it takes time, but the time is now, this game is more dead then i have seen, time to put up or give up, ill be here to the end dun get me wrong, just saying the next person won't be, as we have seen, moscow is dead..... moscow is 3 LS's! 1 full, 2 more then half... dead... sad days!

if you play in Wutai server ... Uldah will be the most active city

A server merge will not happen until after PS3 release, if and when that happens.
People at work see this poster above my desk and say, "You play that game? Isn't that supposed to be, like, the worst Final Fantasy game ever?"
To survive, this game needs three things, in this order:
1.) Core gameplay mechanics fixed and fine tuned (battle, UI, economy, character progression)
2.) Content, story, and lore expanded
3.) PS3 version released to force the media to give the game a second look
Shortly before his departure, Tanaka said the PS3 version was "pretty much finished", which tells me that SE is (wisely) holding off on releasing it until they get the PC version to an acceptable point.
If SE announces world mergers, or decides to scrub the PS3 version completely, then and only then will we know the game is truly dead.
