I'm pretty sure it is protect also. Even in game, if you have protect on, you'll see a little flash of a shield appear when you're hit, showing it deflecting some of the damage. So I'm quite sure this is merely 'protect', and perhaps they made it a fog instead of a dome in the End of an Era trailer in order for it not to be confused with Louisoix's shield spell.
It's Protect. However, Lou casted Protect II. That's why it was removed, it's overpowered.
Yeah, these are the pre-rendered CGI equivalents to in-game spells. Also, the hourglass is a good catch. That's one of the Twelve symbols. I remember seeing it in the ring around Bahamut.
Also, in case you guys didn't catch it, each of the "Spears" of the Twelve that appear have their symbols at the top of them. I even caught a glimpse of "The Destroyer"'s symbol.
On that subject of the magic "Shield" changing from earlier footage, it was probably done so since it looked similar to what Louisoix did. So they made it look different in comparison as to avoid any confusion. That's what I think.
It would be cool if it was a new spell for tactical gameplay. I.E. when your fighting mobs with a big aoe attack/cast WHM had to catch it and call the rest of the party to come within it otherwise get hit by it. Call me crazy
Im in favor of new spells. More spells = more power.

And its not protect, in a live-letter you can see, that protect has the same animation like now.
well it's not a limit-break isnt it? but... i looked closely to it .. it seems to do light damage to the enemy?? you can see after he casts it, the enemies glow for a short moment? or is it just me?
maybe its just a new animation for Sanctus? well i dont know that scene is too short and the players hit too often.
