Focus Classes amongst their respective Jobs

I like the direction Alaltus has taken with the job system.

However I wouldnt also mind seeing a classical job system either (Level warrior to 10, bla to 5, unlock dark knight) - something like in the older tactics games and a bit similar to FFXI. Just so long as the unlocked job isnt out right better - just different.


Anyway - its obvious how the job system is now something should be done to reduce/eliminate stress the system is making.

They dont need to get rid of classes really, they just need to... De uniquize them. They were better a long long time ago before they made them role-specific and damn near identical to the jobs that they evolve into, thus eliminating any reason to play as a class besides THM.

For example. GLD should be doing more damage, but PLD should have more HP, Defense, enmity, but deal less damage. That never happened. their damage output is the same, their HP is the same, their Defense is the same, PLD just gets 5 special skills.

They weren't better when they were opened ended messes of nothingness, even Yoshida didn't like how it felt that way. It was built this way specifically to flow into their jobs rather than making jobs something different, but as we seen on these forums, people were actually complaining and bitching about the concept of doing a quest to unlock a new job that and I quote: "Should be available to everyone at the start."

So the community will hold back any logical changes.

And that if they want to keep classes nearly identical to their jobs, they might as well just eliminate them. Though in doing so, we will lose out on 7+ possible playstyles.

It may be easier for them to just start deleting things from the game, but I think it would be better if they made the right modifications instead.

And of course, some changes to classes were needed so they couldnt do everything every other class could do, except they made too many bad changes and eventually went too far.

I agree in a way i would rather have Jobs over Classes but as you say SE have already made their decision and all i can hope to do at this point is to try to bring forward the current issues and possible remedies in a way that fits in with their plans. Classes are specialised for Solo Jobs are specialised for Partying, my idea puts that to the fore as a class takes from two roles to Solo while Jobs concentrate on their singular role to Party.

Wishing they would just drop this class/job folly already. classes play and feel to much like there job counterparts, so why even have classes.

No the reason they changed them was bacause they were all the same it didn't matter if you were pgl, mrd, lnc or gla you always used the same skills. The only thing that was different was the weapon in your hand, Everything felt exactly the same to play which is why people wanted them to feel more unique and specialised and role orientated. which is also why they later bought the jobs in.

one of the biggest problems with class/job system is the stat modifier. When you change to a job you get +10 stat point of your main stat or w/e it is. Thats not enough to make the difference.

cnj should get alot more int to kill faster
both mages should get mroe def to last longer

gladiator should get less def and alot more attack power
pug, lancer and archer as a class are already pretty self sufficient for solo stuff but maybe nerf their strength and give them more hp and or def.

More drastic changes like this is what they should be doing.

also jobs should get traits that boost their cross class skills while classes should not.

I think jobs and classes should be the difference between role proficiency and flexibility.

Jobs are specific roles in party play. classes can adapt to multiple situations on their own. Stat wise, before point alloment is thrown in, a job would favor the stat of their role (PLDs=VIT, MRD= STR) and Classes would be better all rounders.

A PLD is specialized for a defensive role, but is not as offensively set as a GLA, and while a GLA would be able to use defensive abilities from other classes, but they are not as effective as the PLD's special abilities in tanking.
