I think it fits. There has been a tradition of more "heavy" songs in FF history.
A mix and match is good.
hmm the opinion is close to 50/50 at the moment....Maybe I should of added a poll...can I add this now ?
Basically Final Fantasy XIV takes place in a setting which has a contemporaneously aesthetic blend of science fiction and classic fantasy elements. So mixing orchestral scores and guitar tabs helps support the setting the game presents. When I mentioned renaissance I wasn't referring to the period of The Renaissance, merely the definition which is a cultural movement; a change in the way a number of different disciplines approach their work.
I listen to stuff by E S Posthumus when I want something epic to listen to.

Due to composer alone I consider the FFXIV soundtrack, unfitting as it may or may not be, to be far more authentic to FF than the FFXI soundtrack, which he only did a couple parts of.
Right, put in theses word I do agree on the cultural changes and development. Though electric guitar ? :D :P why not a synth then ! :P :D Although, I feel the string in the song are left to vibrate for too long. "Bwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Bwwoooooooooooooooooooooo "
Maybe it's just that particular song that didn't match my style. Cause the vast majority of the rest of the songs out there in the game are quite great. Maybe a faster string beat would of been appropriate cause I can imagine that same song in a scene from a Soap where a man smoke's close to a bar door and is upset that her girl had sex with his best friend...meh idk..
Whatever it sounds good. Just some of the original tracks that Uematsu made were used in some rather in appropriate spots. Example: Legatus Phase 1 theme used to be for levequests in Coerthas. Speaking of Coerthas... The battle theme there is completely fitting of the environment and is one of my favorites.
On the other hand, the music that Soken and his team are making has been nothing short of fantastic. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
I love the battle song with the electric guitar. It's one of the things I hope doesn't go away.
