Tank split MT and OT - Why can't tank jobs just choose if they want to MT/OT?

Just as a curiosity, did a similar outrage occur when they split the healers into pure and barrier healers? Because, ultimately, this is the same concept as that. For most content, it doesn't matter what pair of healers (tanks) you have, however, if you do harder content, it becomes better to have one each of a pure (main tank) and barrier (off tank) to better utilise the unique buffs they bring.

Warrior as a OT is an insult. I was looking at the "well if you time an attack late in the TB cast you can counterattack". Ok so they gave Paladin VENGEANCE!!!!! So yes Warrior already has this hence when it MTs. Paladin has range attacks, cover and more support which is why that usually OTs

I hated it at the time and still do, mostly because AST lost Diurnal/Nocturnal Sect for it.
Pretty sure PFs also got longer because there's far less barrier healer players than pure healers specifically because of how popular WHM is.

It also hurt WHM's reputation a lot since it forced them to directly compete with AST

There were definitely people that were vocal about losing Nocturnal AST (and the flexibility in general), but the distinction was already there for the most part. Complaints about the split didn't start in earnest until it became apparent that the distinction was entirely pointless and SGE was barely a shield healer. What they've shown of the dedicated MT/OT split seems pointless and nonsensical from the start.

Arguably, Paladin, as of ARR, was the first tank to have a counter from a defensive action. Original Vengeance never had a defensive component and it was just, if you get hit, you automatically do damage back, however, Paladin as Shield Swipe was was only useable if you had blocked an attack and it was on the GCD (later made an oGCD).

But let's not kid ourselves, noone uses Vengeance for the extra damage.

I'm willing to wait and see but man I hope this is a mistranlation or they walk it back, not a fan

I would say it would be better to remove the MT/OT thing entirely and make 1 tank 2 heals 5 DPS viable for any setup and just get on with it as it is.

No that would be horrible. I like two tanks.

I feel like I'm crazy because I see everyone saying stuff like this

"Why only PLD and the new tank as MT?"

Isn't evolved supposed to be flexible and interchangeable? Like the way I hear it is that every tank has effectively two interchangeable kits in evolved suited for being the one with aggro and the one without.

On top of this, if it's that world ending to be in that pigeonhole then reborn mode still exists.

For how long, though? Sooner or later they will sunset a mode. This is evidenced by the new classes not getting reborn mode. A company that always talks about limited resources keeping two different battle modes and balancing both wouldn't last longer than a single expac.
