They are actually separate models technically but the issue is out of all the things you could replace, SAM Sheathe would clip often with replacements. There are surprisingly a lot of different shapes and lengths to SAM weapons, so out of the few weapons you could have a secondary slot for, SAM would be a bad one.
Didnt they mention the animations are holding them back from weapon glaming dont get me wrong i get it its stupid. But man imagine being a white mage using Machinist weapon or dark knight sword to channel magic someday they might do it but the glamour is at least a victory we all should cheer about.
In terms of letting you glam a paladin sword on a ninja, or a scythe on a dragoon, yeah thats what they meant. It's likely all the weapons have different rigs so trying to swap weapons around like that would cause animation freezing or t-posing. I mentioned shields for whm and blm because they can actually use them, granted they are using a 1 handed weapon. They don't get any different animations while using a 1 handed wand or 2 handed weapon so I don't see any reason why enabling a shield with a 2 handed weapon will cause any issues. As for ninjas and vipers, all their offhand weapons are identical to the main hand, so letting you swap them around freely wouldn't cause any issues.
I would definitely like the ability to glam weapons separately. Based on what I've heard, jobs like Ninja, Red Mage, Machinist (for the aetherotransformer), etc already function by having an offhand weapon you cannot see in the equipment menu. I would like to be able to mix and match them like Paladin can with shields.
And, of course, I know many people would want an Emperor's New Aetherotransformer or somesuch.
I may be wrong here, but I believe that with the way the game is currently coded, this may not be possible. Viper can have two distinct blades in each hand, we see this with the Arkveld weapon for example, but ninja does not. It just has one dagger that gets mirrored into the other hand (which you can see demonstrated with the Tsukiyomi weapon)
Each of these jobs that have 2 weapons or parts of their weapons, actually have 2 parts, so all they would have to do is let you glam the offhand and have it override the loading of the second model. It wouldn't be anything as difficult as splitting the models up, they'd basically just have to write a function that allows a different offhand model to be loaded when its glammed. It's definitely something that's reasonably doable and not a huge ask, and I know a lot of glamaholics would enjoy messing around with different combos.
If they could manage to add this, they could also consolidate the PLD sets into single items so you don't have to have an exception in the loot and vendor systems just for PLD.
