: "In the configuration of the any one of above (1) to (9), in a battle by the first mode, a plurality of commands including at least an attack by the sub character on the enemy character and capture of the enemy character may be designated based on an operation input, and motions of the player character and/or the sub character corresponding to the designated commands may be executed."
Sending commands for battle doesn't sound like an auto battler to me... Sounds like I'm opening the attack menu and selecting from the four moves that sub character has... Like a classic pokemon battle.
Instead of being narrow and only looking at certain things, looking at the whole 45 page document and not just the small part where they covered the base on auto battlers would help you not seem so... Unread.
The patents were filed in 2023 and 2024. Those FFXIV elements predate the patents and would count as prior art if your interpretation holds, thus invalidating the patents.
As if any tribunal in its right mind would rule for Nintendo for anything pet jobs. Especially for FF, those existed long before Pokemon ever existed. Nintendo knows that. This is more a tool to control smaller companies that would play in their yard. You'd have to be insane to think it would have any effect on FF, or any game that has a pet job that's not the main thing in the game.
They can't even take on someone much smaller than them, see: When they attempted legal action against Pocketpair, the devs behind Palworld, and it led to absolutely jack diddly squat.
It needs to be understood these patents do nothing, so many things are patented and just don't hold up in court because the moment they have to go through human eyes everyone can tell it's absurd, they exist purely as an attempt to intimidate, nothing else.
wouldn't that also affect Yugioh.
Since you Summon monsters?
It boggles me how they can patent something they didn’t create in the first place. Hopefully the fact that summoning in the FF series long predates theirs is enough to toss out this BS if ever challenged.
As an artist, I’m generally all for strong copyright protections, but this is like me saying I’m going to patent the use of a brush to put paint on canvas! It’s ridiculous!
There is a thing called "prior art". If there is an example, which existed before the patent application then it will invalidate the patent.
Cheers
Isn't that still ongoing? Didn't they cause Pocketpair to alter the game in the silliest ways just as precautions?
If it did resolve, I'd like a source, cause I love to see Nintendo lose. If not, it's why I think it's fantastic that miHoYo is taunting them in the face.
