Empyr is describing everything I felt was wrong with DT so well up there.
I really think DT was shredded by one of those consultant groups like what happened to Forspoken. There are so many concepts in here that just weren't explored or were resolved with "peace and happiness and the power of friendship."
Another great example of how weirdly afraid DT is of political turmoil is with the Yok Hoy. We have a race of insanely strong giants that ruled over all of the southern half of Tural that were only, very recently, brought down by horrific disease that wiped out most of their population and is causing all of the children born stunted and disabled.
They are now stuck with a tiny population just withering away on a cold and desolate mountain, one faction just holding on for dear life in the new world order while working under the current king to watch over a trapped monster, while another is openly hostile and angry at the tragedy that occurred to them, begging for any excuse to strike.
Furthermore, Tuliyollol is built upon a YOK HOY TEMPLE, welcoming and lived in by everyone BUT Yok Hoy. What happened there!?
But, the Yok Hoy of the past were violently oppressing other clans in Tural, and the story just moves on. And we just... Don't care.
It's extremely easy to infer that it's karmic retribution that the Yok Hoy are apparently dying out, which is a bit of an ugly detail to be left with post-Garlemald being all about humanizing and making peace with that race and aiding them in their lowest point in spite of everything.
BUT! The peoples traveling from far off regions and being riddled with foreign disease was a real life tragedy that most likely inspired that part of the Yok Hoy's lore. Sooo... Okay? Where was that story?
