Would you still RP?

if i had a group maybe. otherwise no since i expect public rp to be just as dead as it already was. once that sort of thing starts dying off, it takes immense grassroots efforts to get it going again, which i don't think veterans of this game's community are inclined towards. even putting that aside, it requires an effort at decent worldbuilding from the devs and that's just been extremely mid since 4.x/shadowbringers when they turned away from that to focus on their character writing.

Believe it or not, people can rp without mods

My RP experiences haven't been the best, truth be told. I did try RPing with a group a year ago, but it was too casual for my tastes, and some of the members did try to make me feel excluded for not using mods. Reading this thread, I get the impression that the problem for users who don't use mods is quite widespread?

I will not stop RP haha I wanna make a small group tho for venture and everything. deep lore anything goes ^~^ but I kinda suck as a leader!

All you need for RP is a way to communicate and your imagination. People who were in it for ToS breaking reasons often made the RP scene very toxic for everyone else and drove them away as others have attested in this thread. If anything the RP scene may become healthier now which I would love to see. I miss all the unique and immersive venues that used to be very common before nightclubs took over.

I guess Mare had a really bad impact on the RP community. People just wanted to show off mods instead of really role-playing.
Players on consoles, or those who refused to use Mare, weren’t really welcome anymore.

I wholeheartedly agree with the first point but disagree with the second. DT--for its many faults, has some genuinely interesting meta lore.

Honestly what it really boils down to is a similar problem to WoW--the best RPers, or the most story driven ones, or what have you, tend to keep themselves. That may be for having an established group. That may be because their brand of RP tends to be more in the world than various venues. Or it could be that they're just done with the drama--and to some, perceived mediocrity--of the public RP scene. Because of that it can be extremely hard to get into RP, especially given how many people--as I understand it--in public RP wouldn't even talk to you if you didn't have mods. Heard that complaint a lot.

Honestly? I might start looking into RPing, not going to even lie. I had no problems with the people who kept to themselves, roleplayed a character within the world, and maybe went to SFW venues. RP-FCs I also imagine were largely this kind of group, the ones where RP is directly in their FC tag.

The kind I hope to see less of are the kind that are majorly freaking out about Mare's shutdown. The rampant 18+ clubs. Constant travelers cluttering the streets of Balmung for ERP types. I left crystal a few weeks ago because I was just fed up with seeing so much of that kind of player. (...And the fact that Crystal PF was dead.)

That being said I've always said that I was interested but never dove in, in every community I was in. Being an officer in an RP focused guild? Sure. Actually doing RP? Nah.

I used to enjoy going to player clubs in the evenings, because I liked to make a cool glam for it, I liked listening to music with others, chatting a bit, and having
the opportunity to use lots of emotes. But once I realized what was really going on....that most people there were actually using animation
mods, that many were “mod beasts” or at least modded, and that a lot of them expected you to see their modded characters, otherwise
they wouldn’t even really talk to you..... I didn’t feel much like attending such events anymore. It really stole a lot of the fun for me.
Not to forget the whispers from strangers: “Mare?”


And it’s not just me. I’ve heard the same from many others. I think Mare users often have no empathy for how much they’ve hurt the player base.
It’s not just something on their private PC anymore. Mare brought it into the active gameplay.

Please don’t hate on me, but I honestly hope there won’t be a real successor to Mare.
Use your mods, take screenshots, just like before Mare came along. That’s not hurting anyone.
But letting mods reach so deeply into the active gameplay of the entire player base is not a good thing.
