I'm liking this!
I do like solo content, as long as the rewards are worthwhile. Those solo company leves would be far more enjoyable, for example, if they actually gave you decent returns for your 15 minutes.
One thing I would like to see is these kinds of solo content being aimed at specific classes/jobs: Maat-esque battles that test ones ability on their chosen jobs, with rewards to match. Even sets itself up for achievements and a Paragon Crown like reward, which itself is added (albeit faux) content.
Quoting this, because I play with my girlfriend, and for the most part we've always enjoyed duoing content and the challenge that can be found with that. Content designed for a variety of group sizes would be very welcome.
What I would like to see is content that is designed for, say, 4 people should be given the option to go in with up to 4 people. The same thing for 8-man content; perhaps a minimum of 4 up to 8 (I understand that there's a limit to the amount of resources that would want to be allocated for instanced events, thus a reason for them making these end-game instance battles 8 man only). If people want to challenge themselves, they shouldn't be too restricted in that unless there's a really good reason for it.
Er, no.
The Maat fight was hugely unbalanced, some jobs had it so easy it was laughable (BST for example) while others such as RDM were a nightmare for many. Sure, make the drops job-specific, I'd like that, something I can use rather than simply vendor or drop, but Maat showed designing fights for specific classes isn't something SE are good at.
Why limit it? All content should be open solo to max size the content is designed for, requiring a minimum number is simply a gating mechanic that should be consigned to history.
No, I'm not asking for content to be scaled depending on group size, what I am asking for is that smaller groups are actually able to go in to experience it; we don't need content gating based on groups, thank you very much.
Solo content rewards should be appropriate. it's much harder to do things in a group. I like the idea of solo content, because I know a lot of people that want to solo. I myself occasionally want to solo, but I often get very bored very fast when i'm playing by myself.
It's good to know that there will be many options for entertainment in ARR.
I like this idea a lot... very much indeed. It inspires me to test my own ability, I can get much more stuff done when there aren't party members available, and at least I know I'm working towards some kind of reward.
This was actually one of the reasons why I curbed my Hamlet Defense frequency... example, 47 runs in Aleport and only one seal? (mind you, there were runs were we did 69k+ four or five times in a row and got nothing but armets... we all took snapshots as proof). Its bs, its ridiculous, beyond frustrating and could actually drive people from the game.
The Relic and Empyrean system from FFXI that Zumi mentioned above was spot on. The devs there made a great move in the right direction and it would have been great to have a similar system whereby players earned something like GC seals (or "Free Comapany" seals?) that could be used towards the item of their choice. For example, an idea is as follows:
If somewhere in Eorzea, you wanted that wonderful looking weapon or body armour that randomly dropped in the chest at the end of the mission/dungeon chest, and just couldn't get lucky enough while completing it as a party... at least offer the item for something like 100k seals. This way, every time you at successfully completed the mission solo you at least got like 2k or 3k seals (perhaps base the amount on overall performance?)
The whole point being that if you couldn't get your rare item to drop within a party... (same party that you spent at least 60 to 90 minutes putting together for an annoying 30 minute run with extremely crappy drop-rates)... at least give players the option to go try the soloable mode of the mission that gave them something to work towards.
Thanks Rukkirii that's some good news ^_^b
How interesting. I wonder what kind of content will be available.
Yes this is great for me
This really doesn't necessarily tie into solo rewards... but given the novelty nature of many of the achievement rewards... would it be too unreasonable to make some of these items indestructible?
We got level 1 rings from the new level 45+ fetch quest... Weeee. Why not make it unbreakable?
