You know, Hyrist, you're paranoia would probably not be so bad if you did not slaughter Snrubbles wholesale in your free time. There is no Snrubble Conspiracy, it'll be all right.

Oooo. That's a tough one.
A LOT has changed.
If I were you, I'd get a linkshell and push through as much story content as you can. Even the earlier cutscenes are ones to remember, and they'll all be gone by the time 1.xx concludes.
Getting to "United We Stand" and "To Kill a Raven" in particular are amazing, and remind me of the old school Final Fantasy days. So many times going into "To Kill a Raven" and I still get chills each time.
Beyond that? I think I like the job changes. The job quests for Dragoon were really nice and I love the combat system we have now. If you want to have combat in the game feel active, Monk and Dragoon really get you into the fight, having to constantly concern yourself with positioning to combo and survive. Fun stuff.
You haven't seen them reproduce! Nothing that breeds that fast is healthy for the planet. Especially if it disguises itself as something cute!

If you've watched Star Trek, here's a good analogy:

Iknowrite!
They must ALL die or we're doomed!
Well, as to that, the Main Missions give EXP, a goodly amount of it too. So you may want to look into them just to get some fast exp. Not to mention, they are all easily done solo. The Seventh Umbral Era missions, which are the ones that are definitely going away, are a little harder. Once you hit... I think it's 23 (pretty easy, can be done solo in a week [yes, yes I know it can be done faster, but not the first time with no experience]), you can start doing Grand Company quests, which are pretty brief and fun. If you keep chugging away at it, you should be able to experience most of the miss-able story at least.
If you ever have any questions, you can look me up, I'm on Balmung as well. I'm always happy to help out new players as well. Good luck.
Did you get your Goobbue yet?
Hey Hulan, any chance you have a LS that is accepting Noobs like me?
Also, no Goobbue yet :( I'm not sure how to get it, but I did crap my pants the first time I saw one running at me O.O
