they should remove the crown and replace it with an I for "Information"
a mentor is not supposed to be good, he's supposed to know that drk is a tank and that you can unlock the raid tier at solution nine
hell they should even change the term "mentor" cause a mentor is someone better than you xd
I've been working towards being a full Mentor, pretty much the only thing I need now is... 250 more commendations.
I know there's a stigma around having the BK crown, but in roulette duties I find that I'm always the patient one explaining difficult mechanics to sprouts... while the actual BK crowns are strangely silent.
Figure I might as well have the plastic toy next to my name if I'm going to be doing the job anyway, right?
The real question, though... does the crown attract bads and toxics to it... or does the crown turn otherwise good players into bads and toxics? Is there a Venom thing going on?
WE ARE MENTOR.
I expect there is an element of toxic players wanting the "status" of the crown, there are also "mentors" in NN who have no idea what they're talking about, If someone suggested instituting actual exams for becoming a mentor I'd be the first to second it (even if I'd probably fail a fair number of probable tests - I'm terrible at practical tanking even though I know the theory, for example). It also probably doesn't help that there is a mount locked behind 2k mentor roulette completions so all those mount hoarders have to become battle mentors to complete their collections regardless of how good they are at actually playing the game.
I have heard of cases where people farm guildhest roulette for commendations which really shouldn't be a thing... Nothing in guildhests is worthy of commendation, ever, there shouldn't even be the option.
There ARE mentors that do genuinely try to help players, but they are pretty much over-shadowed by the "mentors" that just see the crown as a status symbol of sorts to inflate their ego and just don't really care about trying to help players because there isn't really any reason for them to do so. Add in the fact that some of the "advice" that some mentors will confidently give other players is so mind-numblingly awful and you gradually learn the reasons of why the mentor crown is called "The Burger King Crown."
Either this, or they often give "advice" in the most sneering, "I'm better thank you, so listen to me," manner possible.
Which is pretty much why I mentioned on the other page I only wear the trade crown and not the big crown. I just don't want to be associated with that sort of behavior.
Maybe they’re not playing “their classes.” I just assume - especially right now, right after a new expansion has dropped - that a lot of people, mentors or not, are leveling classes they don’t main or even play much at all, just to get them all to 100 for the mount. I know I am. lol And I’m not a very confident healer, but I do my best. The tank and healer I used to recert my crown are the only ones I know well. The rest I’m re-learning every expansion.
That said, there’s the other side of the coin where people who don’t level every class, don’t necessarily understand what other classes’ kits look like from level to level. I mean, for your example, I know not to use Cure 1, but WHM pre-lilies can be pretty rough in some duties! There will be some wipes. But I’ll get better as I go along… and then I’ll do it all over again next expansion. lol
There are 3 roles but a lot more jobs. Atm with the new expansion, people are levelling different jobs and it may have been a job they are not too familiar with. Personally I go with trusts first to get a refresher on those jobs but I got caught queuing on astro last week while fixing glamours thinking I had queued on sage and I was like how does this work again? I was reading my tooltips as we were moving as I had not touched that job since about 3 yrs...
