Tell them that everything in this game is like farming Ashes of Al'ar from Kael but with a group needed and they'll have the right mindset. Well, maybe minus the lockout.
It's not. It's just different.
Optimize you skill layout and you won't have to do it too often.Quote:
In particular, selecting skills on the action bar by hitting LEFT LEFT LEFT LEFT LEFT LEFT SELECT RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT SELECT UP SELECT DOWN LEFT LEFT LEFT SELECT is really frustrating to me when I can just hit a few number keys instead.
Animation lock is negating any advantage keyboard is giving you, except for having more free time.
Server reaction time is not near-instantaneous like it is in WoW. Movement itself is not as smoothed out, either. 2.0 might change this, but we have to wait and see on that one.
That is really, really a matter of prefference. My friends all play on controllers (one of them plays exclusively with the keyboard, no mouse) and it's kind of a worn out joke of mine saying something about controllers being bad.
In the end it really only matters regarding what the person is used to, I personally use a nostromo keypad and my mouse, move through the actions bars with the scrolling wheel, select actions with the mouse and that stuff. It's not about gaining performance, it's simply about what feels more comforable on my hands.
This is a crutch for most people. It's also why U'ldah is the popular spot. Go to Limsa. You can get a crafting Leave,
- run to Bango Zango,
- get Materials,
- Craft out materials, usually 7 Synth,
- turn in leve Quest
- Return to the leve quest desk
All in less time then it will take for the Leve Quest girl to re-spawn. The only place this isn't true is U'ldah.
I don't know why U'ldah is immune from this but it's the real reason people center there.
Yes, in the end it is.
There are a few people who insist on gamepad players being subpar compared to keyboard players actually. So before we go either way with this, let's just say "try both, decide what is better for you".Quote:

Ul'dah has multiple servers for each subarea, while Gridania and Limsa only have one server per subarea. Maybe SE even reduced server number for Grid & Limsa in favor of Uldah.
No the real reason that people are in Ul'Dah is because that's where people decided to start shouting for groups/sales/trades/etc when they realized that search features in the game were terrible. It's better to consolidate everyone in one area given the circumstances lest you're just trying to play solo that day.
It's also no surprise that people chose the Ul'Dah Mercantile House as their "Official" spot to sell stuff in.
