Eurogamer seems to get it but the public isn't impressed:

Kotaku managed to post an article and not mindlessly bash the game, thankfully some of the commenters there were trying to actually inform people of the state of things.
This is just the first of probably many small teasers, the real trailer (with game footage) will come out during Gamescon
FFXIV is known as the worst mmo ever made, SE is going to have to drop 10s of millions on advertising to change peoples minds.
Unfortunately no one cares about XIV except us who are playing it now, just ask a mmo player who is not playing XIV what would you rather play GW2 which is being called revolutionary and it has no sub fee, or XIV 2.0. I would put money on over 95% of them saying GW2.
That is the hurdle SE needs to get over, and it will cost them alot. Which is what makes me worry, even top notch in-game footage if it is really good will not be enough to change peoples minds. They need to spam XIV on every channel similar to how WoW advertises expansions.
As for the reviews several have been positive, but the communities on those sites still are considering this to be same game that launched.
I'd have to disagree. A few really well done gameplay trailers would do a ton to help this game. This biggest complaint I've heard about 2.0 and the new trailer especially is that it's not gameplay footage so it doesn't tell people anything about it. If they put a lot of effort into a handful of outstanding gameplay trailers I think that would do far more to help the game than pretty much anything else.
Ad spots aren't going to save this game, word of mouth that it has truly changed from other players will.
Don't worry, just give it a couple months after it releases and people will complain about GW2, leave en masse, then move onto the next big MMO acting like it's the messiah of gaming.
If SE wants this to work out for them they really do need to highlight that this is pretty much an entirely different game, and really get aggressive about attracting PS3 players. I don't think the "hurr durr vXIII/VII" crowd is anything to worry about considering they just spam their opinions on that on every single article regarding Square-Enix, at least.
From what I've read on the IGN and mmorpg comments, the news got fairly good comments.
Its pretty much the same story over on Destructoid
