So, why cant I wear hats?

They should just hide the bunny ears and let them wear hats. It's so dumb that after all this time vieras still can't wear them.

If they had even just given Viera and Hrothgar the latest hats for job specific gear, I'd have probably used my free fantasia to switch back to Hrothgar. But since they continue to be lazy, I will hold onto it for now.

well the difference is that miqote ears are on the sides near the back of their head, our ears are located on the crown of our skull, i believe this is why au ra were also designed to have horns on the sides of their heads rather sitting on top (like a satyr or something or other) so most hats will have the ears clip through them. the few hats that do support viera ears (like the imperial hats from ew) have them clip through them rather cleanly so i guess that's another part of it.

Small indie company, please understand.

But the -new items- could have been remodelled with this in mind?

Tie them and make them into a low ponytail

Honestly, just let the ears clip through, it'll look like there are holes anyway and difference of actually making holes is very minute compared to the absurd self imposed difficulty of remodeling every helmet for every build, ear type, hairstyle and whatever for every race with things on their heads.

Squex needs to be far more pragmatic and efficient with their quality standards.

They're applying ffxvi-like standards to ffxiv; yet they were fine with ps1 textures on clothing like Rauhban's cape for years.

As someone who messed with textool before, it's a bit complicated, due the ear is TIED with the hairstyles, and hairstyles change when wearing a hat.

While there are mod that allow viera/hrothgar wear hat, but that only extend to the vanilla hairstyle of this game.

In case you have noticed, any of community made viera/hrothgar's hair mods seems to have a similiar issue as well and not being hat compatible too.
