Ahhh, I remember back on EW launch when people were coping with how simple new SMN was by saying it was just a base for them to build on. Well here we are, they slapped on a single new bahamut shaped brick and called it a day.
I know I wasn’t expecting anything, but damn I’m still disappointed.
8.0 Copium?
I've played every iteration of SMN since ARR, and this is still by far my favorite in terms of job fantasy fulfillment and gameplay. I don't think simple/easy is inherently bad. Solar Bahamut is also just a very welcome addition in my book, because he shows an evolution of what the FFXIV SMN does. Where before we just channel the powers of past primals we've been exposed to, now we're taking what we've learned and mixing it together to create something new, and I think that's neat. That opens up a lot of possibilities, and I look forward to this whole "focus on job identity" they keep mentioning coming later on and seeing where they take this job.
tl;dr, no complaints here.
The SMN update being something an intern probably came up with in 30 minutes is hilarious to me
Perhaps adding more than 1 reskinned primal would take too much dev time? I don't even know, man
So it's the same braindead job as before... what a disappointment.
I was hoping for some mechanical changes but it's pretty much the same... So much for "the rotation will change" that Yoshi-P said in the job action presentation during the letter. It's the same freaking thing with just a new Bahamut skin to press the same buttons again and a little combo with Searing Light that definitely won't make any consequence to the rotation, since you'll want to use it in the buff window anyways.
Being a "turret of summons" with no substance is sadly the way from now on.
The problem is that is a 2.5 year wait playing boring jobs. Everyone across the board, SMN just happened to be the most unfortunate example regarding that.
Was that really a bad thing do focus both encounter and job design at once? Would that be so confusing to players like they said? I don't think... And if by logistics reasons they had to pick one or the other, why didn't they chose job design first? It's literally how the player interacts with the world.
I guess I'm fortunate to be a fan of one of the new jobs (PCT) and that looking incredibly engaging will probably satisfy me for quite a while.
Pretty sure they are aware of the massige negative feedback this is getting.
It wouldn't surprise me if the job gets some minor but significant tweaks mid expansion.
