Why would hydaelyn want to be bahamut? Just seems like a lazy way to pull at people's heartstrings while also going "more bahamut! see how cool?"
Except that in north america/europe we don't really value "that's cool," we value variety much more.

Solar Bahamut being an oblique, spoiler-free reference to Hydaelyn is practically a given now, I suppose. With that in mind I have to wonder if Scholar's new skill, Seraphism, is also meant to be such a reference, albeit to a different figure. The transformation into a white-robed figure with red-tipped feathered wings definitely feels to me like it's meant to be oneābut the appearance is nowhere near a perfect match for the character that immediately came to mind: Elidibus/Themis/Zodiark.
Not at all a fan of yet another Job getting a "Fuck your Glamour, you're cosplaying now" button, but I didn't play Scholar to begin with so whatever. But I think it's neat food for thought, at least.
Hydaelyn can't want anything, she's gone and presumably finally returned to the lifestream. Solar Bahamut is, most likely, made of some of the aether that she gave us after our battle that we fashioned into the firm of Bahamut due to the importance of Bahamut as a primal/Eikon throughout the story (in a meta way as well, poetic that the lv100 ability would be a version of the monster that caused the Calamity). It could have been Phoenix or Alex or whatever, but the devs chose Bahamut. I don't really see how it can be a "tug at heart strings" either.
It's the entire reason I never touched Reaper again after completing the job quests. Story was neat, but screw that mechanic and the horse it rode in on.
EDIT: But this is hardly the place to complain about Reaper's trashy Halloween robes, ear/horn surgery, and skin bleaching.
