Ah, yes, the housing. This makes sense. I recently got my first house and was sad to find out that the interior walls/pillars do not change with the outside.

In short, because the setting exists, then everyone you're interacting with needs to be informed of your choice and you need to be informed of all of their choices. The amount of data being exchanged goes up.
This is why they are sparing with how many choices we get.
Aside of the data, a universal "/displaysidearm" option could even have weird effects for some of them, like RDM's focus gem, NIN's second dagger or BRD's bow and arrows.
For a while there was a glitch going on where sometimes if you tried on items, your character in the preview screen would go into your current job's battle stance even if you had saved a different job's weapon to the preview, so you'd get all sorts of strange poses -- holding a RDM's rapier and focus like a bow and arrow, for instance, and IIRC that revealed that the arrows seem to be the main hand weapon and the bow is the offhand. So you'd be able to take some pretty weird screenshots with an all-purpose hiding of the offhand slot, and the devs seem to dislike that and keep those sort of options locked down to prevent it.
True. If they added a new column, this would be the case. But if such column does exist already, then it's already being transferred, and the user gains the ability to set it true or false.
True. That was just an example, I never meant it as a universal option. I guess I could have wrote /displayaetherotransformer instead. For all those jobs with an offhand, I would lean even more into suggesting they should have glamourable offhands, because it makes more sense, the items already exist. As for MCH, from what I've gathered so far, there's only one lunchbox.
I sincerely doubt any of this would ever be implemented. I'm not too concerned, just curious what others think. I appreciate your input!
