Krile and Pictomancer

They needed someone that wouldn't require a needlessly convoluted excuse to be there. (Though I suspect a few scions reasons will probably border on that). Yugiri however would still be involved in Doma's restoration. It and Ala Mihgo might have been liberated, however that doesn't magically fix the nation overnight. That same reasoning would be why there should be no expectations for anyone in Ishgard or Garlemeld to appear in Dawntrail unless the story takes us back to those areas at some point.

They already said they were bringing Krile to Dawntrail since she is a more underutilized member of the cast. The other Scions were off doing the cool stuff or got to go to other worlds while she ended up getting left behind doing stuff like getting kidnapped or getting possessed.

They could have just made up a new character to be the main Pictomancer, but they seemed to be intent on bringing Krile into the main picture and I don't exactly see her as Viper. Also not sure that you can say it can't suit her considering she has the most cutesy/cartoony outfit in the entire game among the main cast and has a hood with cat ears on it.

They could have had Gerolt be a Pictomancer in order to become the Eorzean hero Middle Aged Man enlisting the WoL's assistance as his sidekick Drinking Buddy. ;3

It's not her look, it's her personality that makes her a poor choice if one perceives the job to be cutesy and childish like how Relm was. Krile is actually a pretty serious character. Her stoicism is right up there with Y'shtola's, albeit far less annoying.

I thought the class would play into her potent empathic powers. It's one reason why I was expecting something like Green Mage/Druid, Geomancer, or even Beastmaster as the new role.

Using Yugiri would have all the same "out of character" complaints – even more, IMO – but with even less reason for her to be here and taking up a cute painting art instead of the very capable battle role she already has.

Krile can be a serious person and still enjoy painting cute things. And she's not that super serious anyway – not in a way that rules her out of possibly suiting the job.

Anything related to Krile is always forced, she is one of the most forced character.

Who's to say what fits who? You don't need to be a specific personality type yo be an artist. I do feel they'll need to give her more background on this though.

She could be, but obviously she's only really showed us her intellectual side up to now.

I figured that since she always struggled with having a fighting skill, that if she was going to use magic, then she needed to find a way to perform it that works for her.

There are a lot of ways to perform magic that amount to the same thing:

• using your sense of anger at the injustice in the world to create darkness magic like DRK.
• using your steadfast desire to protect others to conjure magics from the soul like a PLD.
• using the aether of your surroundings to produce magic like a Black Mage.
• using your aether to produce it like a Conjurer, Thaumaturge or Red Mage.
• using your aether to create a familiar like an Arcanist and doing magic by proxy.
• using a paint brush to create a familiar of sorts, which is the thing you've painted, and use your aether to give it life and firepower, just like Arcanists can give life to a broom.

The benefit of the paint brush method is it could help her to visualize the magic she wants to use, which some potential mages struggle with and fail to get anywhere with it.

You come across these struggling mages in the Thaumaturge and Conjurer quests and although I recall it being in part an issue with their aetherial density, I think the implication is some people just aren't cut out for it or can't visualize it well enough.

So maybe pictomancy was seen as something of a shortcut to visualize it quicker and pick up a mage skill quickly.

That's a really good point, but they have already developed her character into a businesswomen rivaling Rowena now.

Aren't artists usually silent and depressed? Sitting alone at home, being shy and express themself through their art instead of an outgoing personality? I think it could suit her well if played right.

I am just sad that we don't have a White Mage anymore in the main cast.

But at least her Cat Ear Hood, which is traditionally seen as an iconic White Mage item, seems has been introduced in FF6 as a headpiece for Relm - a Pictomancer. Closing the circle I guess.
