Being able to meld to AF would be cool...

I think...
If ALL armour was craftable, and all equipment we wore were craftable. And if all equipment could be customized with materia (without having to play random games).

And then if Materia could be bought/spiritbonded/found (super rare ones in dungeons).


Then we would have a lot of potential for customisation (both at the stat/skill level and the physical appearance level).

Crafters would be happy: They could craft the latest fashions.
Dungeon Crawlers would be happy: They could find those super powerful/rare materia from chests and HNM drops.
Everyone would be happy: Less focus on random luck and more focus on strategic slot utilization and stat/skill focus.

On topic: I had figured the 'Unique' tag on items usually meant that there was only one in existence, or that the item was so rare, your character didn't want to toss it in with their other gear. It is a revered item, or maybe even taboo, so attaching materia to it would just seem....wrong.

Plus, I remember reading somewhere that said that AF gear was meant to be on par with double-meld gear. It isn't, but maybe that was another thought behind the logic. 'We are going to make it just like gear you would get with minimal effort anyway, so we don't want you making it any better because of that.'

It's an idea.

I agree with Rina entirely so far this thread.

I always thought it would be nice to have some sort of AF and or Rare/EX specific Materia. Something special that could be obtained in a dungeon or via some type of token system. It would be something that has some requirements on the armor such as, "Warrior, lvl 50, body, Rare/EX" to be able to meld it. If they ever did implement something like there probably not be any double socketing, and probably should have some way to removing the Materia in case of mistakes and such. Just throwing out the idea~

Neat idea, and the cooldown to re-attempt. But at the same time I almost agree with the other people who say something to the effect of it feeling wrong. It would certainly make af more viable, but in a way some pieces would be overpowered lol. *coughwhmfeetcough*

meld no thanks, varying upgrades in the future yes plz.

If it's not going to be as good as melded gear then what's the point of upgrades.

Exactly this.

The issue is that AF, as it is now, is a useless piece of junk. It is the utterly most pointless set of armor available to anyone. Even the freakin class-only armor sets are superior after melding. For god sakes man, its not even ancient "special" armor. AF is a joke, and if it can't be upgraded to at least compete with melds, then it needs to be meldable so it can enjoy some kind of relevance. Give me a frickin set bonus or something! Damn even GC gear craps on AF. What kinda shit is that? SE has to do *something* with it, otherwise its a waste of data. Well except for Bard AF because it looks BOSS
