Maybe. All I know is at least in the US n Canada it's played in about once every Christmas song pack on a radio station that doesn't turn into a Christmas music station. It's in what feels like every other song pack on radio stations that ONLY play Christmas music. It's literally the 1# song at this time of the year here since it's release it is played or requested that much. Occasionally it gets used in adds. Don't get me wrong it is a very nice song, but it is oversaturated. I'd rather hear David Bowie and Bing Crosby's rendition of Drummer Boy more often than this song.

It's THE Christmas song in the US. Gets played everywhere all the time. So we meme on it. Even Mariah herself has gotten in on the memeing. It's all in good fun.

That's another popular one. I play a game every year starting on December 1st called Whamageddon (that started on some sim racing forum) where you have to avoid hearing that version of Last Christmas until Christmas. Not as hard to do with online shopping being so much a thing.

Heard of versions that use Mariah's song, too.

Yeah - this was definitely a thing last year. Sadly was Whammed whilst in a supermarket on 5th December. Didn't last very long at all!
