Also Ivalician Moogles are a poor option, they are just another variation on cute.

We need a more impish kind of smol race, like the Asura in GW2. That race was handled exceptionally well, because while they can be cute, they also have other dimensions to capitalize on, looking kinda feral and being super smart/condescending.

I think it would by necessity want to be an original race, too. The options from earlier FFs are kind of weak, and I think having something to counterbalance the Au Ra would be nice, maybe some kind of bird race.

That said, absolutely need female hroths and hats first. The amount of indifference displayed toward my race is inexcusable, it feels borderline racist when I get high enough lol.

Anything smaller and slower than Mao is welcome. Mao needs more tasty treats to snacks on. Big Bunnys little bits too fast for Mao to catch and thems too big for Mao tummy.

If they kept their in-game proportions regardless of the art style shift, Genomes from FFIX would make for a decent alternative I think

As much as I would adore Burmecians, they really just aren't going to happen without catastrophic compromises to their original look. But, I'd be very down for another smol race. Would hope for some form of expressive identity for them that isn't just being between Lalafell and female Au Ra size, though.

That said, I'm still waiting for female Hrothgar, *checks date* 908 days after they were promised (or 1,692 days since Hrothgar as a whole were introduced).

True, though I don’t know just how much we’ll ever get. It would be nice to have more sliders for various things to create a truly custom look. Or barring that, more face and body options to give a lot more variety. Still holding out some hope they will add a few new things to the character creator to show off their graphic updates.

As a Lala myself, I can understand OPs frustration. It’s my favorite (assuming we never get Hilda’s half-Elezen ears added to Hyur…), and I love the look, but there should be a range between ultra cute sprite and war-hardened dwarf! lol I’d like to see big lush beards for the males and some burly muscle tone, for the bust slider to actually do something for the females, and different body style options across the board for all races. As OP says, not everyone who wants to play small wants to be seen as cute or comedic, and we definitely don’t want to be infantilized.

Maybe this is an area where adding more sub-races could help? There’s already 2… doubling that could go a long way to adding more variety, and add in lore reasons to explain the difference in appearance. But really I think I’d just rather see more options added to what we already have: more face types, more body types, more hair and facial hair options. Enough that everyone playing the same sub-race doesn’t look almost exactly alike except for color choice options.

I still think they need to add a qiqirn in a Burmecian dancer outfit somewhere.
