Leave both options for the "synthetic" ones and the "natural ones" is a good compromise here, but that "upgrade" shouldnt be forced on aura players imo, both should stay an option.
I heavily dislike the new limbal rings, while I loved the old ones, they gave a shiny effect and it was fun to have on my aura alts.

While I enjoy my alts, I'm an Au Ra Main ATM.
And honestly, if they truly want to follow the motto of keeping things the same, the glow of the limbal rings, and the option to not have them toggled on is changing what our characters look like.
in contradiction to how they wish to keep characters recognizable to their old selves but improved.
I like the mix my characters have with a Lilac/Red/Pink(aka Purple/Red/Pink) in their eyes with the color on the limbal ring being one of those colors washing some of the others down.
This will absolutely change how the Character looks and feels.
Which based on their concern about keeping the look the same. It is of deep concern for them.
(even if it was the slip of a hand, and the color was changed. They Should make sure it isnt. As it cannot be changed/reverted afterwards.

Which means that everyone should be taking screenshots of their characters and taking stock of their settings in character creation in case something changes terribly.

You also have to keep in mind, it isn't even totally prosthetic, or android eyes.
Living beings can have glow in parts of their body, so regardless of what you expect of biology, some light bioluminescence is possible in the eye around a specific part of their sight.
Now if you like this new natural look, it's fine to have it.
But as an additional option, not a replacement of the existing thing people have grown with.
The Glow and No Limbal Ring should be Glow/No LR/"Natural/Glowless", instead if No LR/"Natural/Glowless". -
