Can Square Enix stop killing off old content

What do you propose for it to be then? I suppose they could adopt the Firmament Fates into it so it has some reason for people to stay there and for it to have its own level of hefty rewards. But then that just be Firmament 2.0, and I dont think making Doma Reconstruction an exact copy of what Firmanent is, is a good enough idea to warrant more grinds. People would just hate the idea of having this whole other thing to grind for rewards and Firmanent skybuilder scrips are already painstakingly grindy as it is.

Job quests (which we sorta got with EW?), more beast tribe stuff, crafting (it'd make sense because they have to rebuild a castle + capital city so... y'know, why aren't we crafting for them more?) gathering (same as previous explanation), just... quests in general that make you move across more of doma instead of just to the castle gate and then back out again.

a bit more life, a bit more plants. i know it looked kinda sparse in terms of people living there because it was just recently built and they are still in that "okay now time to throw out the 500 burlap sacks that once held stone" bit of rebuilding but its been several years now and it still has that kinda... "so new that it doesn't look to yet be inhabited" vibe.

And? How much of the game world do you actually regularly use? Most of my time in the recent towns outside the story is the tiny marketplace area, or aetherite to turn in relic stuff. Most of the game world has little use outside the shopping district once you are done with the story content.

Except the major cities do get used quite a bit. There are big areas of maps/zones that -aren't- used but most if not all of those places aren't "this is the capital city of a country". They're usually some random-ass town filled with rural villagers at best.
My issue is that it is a -big map- and you guys seem to be neglecting that bit. Yes, there are other places that are barely touched but very few manage to hit that level of scale.

Also I take issue with the fact that you use whataboutism to support your argument with the implication that I am giving the other empty places a free pass when... I'm not. It just isn't relevant to the conversation in this thread. So please don't put words in my mouth.

Doma wasn't designed as a hub. It was designed as an optional side activity. We had 2 hubs like we get most expansions.

okay but it being a hub isn't my point.

it's a giant area that isn't used and is seemingly abandoned by the devs because there is no reason to walk more than a few steps past the aetherite but its bigger than most cities/towns in the game.

we're not talking about hubs, we're talking about systems that have been seemingly abandoned or replaced.

But it served it's purpose - the setting of a rebuilding story. It's role in the story is mostly done aside from going back there for role quests. it doesn't have to be permanently relevant with changes espeically given it's optional status, meaning the state of Doma will be different for different players.

it's a waste of time, resources, and space. the point of this thread is that -it could be more- very easily with very little effort /and/ would be canon to the story because doma is literally trying to rebuild itself after what, 30 years of garlean occupation?
there is so much effort that went into designing that place and it /isn't being used/. that's the problem here. i don't see why this is worth arguing or debating because there is no argument.

if i say "doma as it stands isn't being used outside of a place to get an extra 40k once a week and a way to hop over to gangos" and... there is no disputing that. there is no argument, no debate. if i say "most of the map isn't being used and is less refined than most of the rest of the maps in the entire game both past and future" there is no debate. it is a big empty zone with nothing to do.

if you disagree, then you can disagree. that's fine. but i would like to get back to the main subject of the thread now.

Here's a better question. Can Square Enix stop making content that's dead on arrival?
