I can understand your dissappointment.
But I have to ask if you'd really rather spend the entirety of your holiday under threat of this condition: "This maintenance will address an issue which causes servers to crash under certain conditions." instead of getting up late and starting to play at noon? -

It's 7-10 AM UTC. Maybe it is 9-12 for a european that is +2 hours but it is still the morning. Even for Australians, it ends at 8 PM which is actually the most busy time of day in any region. -

In general, hot fixes are applied as soon as they've been validated to work. Apparently, if Stormpeaks does not experience a problem, it doesn't exist.
There would still be complaints about maintenance on Memorial Day (Monday maintenance) -
