With their name basically being "Naughty" this is bait. Also is that a lvl 67 Thaumaturge? They were probably carrying their party too much in dungeons so that may have gotten people angry at them. Out of envy of course.

Personally, not invalidating your experience, both WoW and FFXIV cannot hold a flame to LoL hahaha. Never had death threats until that game, threats plural. For everything possible, do too well, threat, not good enough because you were not carrying their poor performance also threat. Straight to jail.
It's not an important comparison to me but I've had good experiences in both WoW and FFXIV, noting failure seemed to be more acceptable back when I played in vanilla, but guilds fell apart more often due to more stressful content, crossroad chat made Ul'dah chat look tame, night elf gold dancing beggars vs cultivated entire strip venues lol. I'm sure it's possible WoW has had cultural shifts from when I played last, but at least at the time it seemed fine.
I played LoL for a few years and the entire time it was always at least one horrible egg, not slightly bad.. full on horrible. HotS wasn't bad.
I'm weird but I'd love to add more to underlying community systems, like people have issue with commendations sometimes but im like BIGGER MORE BETTER haha. Consider the subtle social power of Souls Signs or Death Stranding. As an aside I love commendations in crystal conflict- you get them all the time for any job class because people are paying attention to who is making a difference (mostly).
is this a titanmen thread?
I'm going to play devil's advocate here, because I think there is a point to be made for the more unsavoury parts of this community (and no, I'm not talking about forums.) I've noticed the game is prone to attract individuals who can be... shall we say, intrusive at best, and disturbed, obsessive, or showing very obvious signs of stalker-like behaviour at worst. I've also dabbled in and out of various discords and seen hints of predatory and/ or abusive behaviour, underneath more innocent guises.
My experience with other MMOs is limited, though, so perhaps someone can enlighten me. I was under the impression games like LoL were toxic for issues to do with competitiveness resulting in sometimes extreme levels of hostility and elitism; does this sort of thing go on there too?
The first time I tried to casually RP in WoW I was chased by a guy in just underwear demanding to know if I was a girl in RL. Not to diminish what the OP said, you will unfortunately find idiots in every game, but in FXIV such things seem to be at least more⦠encapsulated in venues and private things etc. My advice would be to report anyone harassing you, and try not to let then spoil your enjoyment of the game.
