We truly live in the darkest timeline.
I'm personally over FF12 style storytelling even if my favorite FF was FF12
It's endless factions and politics without a soul. It's like reading a genaology.
at least its grounded into the world instead of having a once-again fight against the primal cosmos of the universe like how they jumped the shark starting with Shadowbringers.
But I guess thats on par with almost every FF title where the story usually winds up leading to that sort of thing
Even FFXII ends with the party fighting a rogue god who decided to go against their people to fight for humanity's freedom, whose methods to achieve said freedom caused so much grief and destruction that it couldn't be allowed to continue, while also denying the existing gods control of their lives any further, I sincerely don't think there is a numbered FF game that doesn't get weirdly high concept.
Funnily enough, said "rogue god" has a familiar name, Venat.
Funnily enough, the Convocation members were ripped straight from the Occuria and the Scions of Light from FFXII which includes Venat. And I already mentioned that yes almost every game in the series winds up saving the world/universe, but at least in FFXII's plot they kept the main focus of the conflict between the Archadian Empire and the Resistence even with the whole gods thing. Heck the final battle takes place inside a giant imperial battleship where they planned on destroying Rabanastre.
