I am having this same exact issue as well as my sound cutting out like Mistmonster. As a further edit, it seems that it only occurs for me when I am in the cue for a duty finder. The sound will cut out and when I exit the game a quick message pops up on the screen saying the "Party composition has changed". There is more to the message but it goes by so quick, I can't catch it all. I hope this helps.

Just found this post; adding my name to the list. Hit exit...black screen. I play full screen; task manager not available post exit. (think windowed might work). I have to Alt Tab Del to access power option and restart my system for access to my desktop.

I've had this issue for a looonnnngg time too. FFXIV just crashes/not responds when I try to exit it. Sometimes I do have to use task manager to end task it, but it is a little annoying.

Started having this issue too since 6.4, on top of all the mac related problems…

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Please try the following:
- Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card and sound drivers (if applicable). We did notice that you had previously updated your graphics driver however since then newer version have been released. Please double check that they are up to date.
- Please try running the game as an administrator.
- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
- Although we understand you may have already reinstalled the game, please be sure that Final Fantasy XIV is installed to the C: Drive.
- Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
- Install game on different drive (if you have not done so already).
Disable Full Screen Optimizations. To disable this, please find the "ffxiv_dx11.exe" and right click it and select properties. Then under the compatibility tab there will be a check box labeled "Disable Full Screen Optimizations". Check it and click apply.
