I think everyone is blowing the Side Quest way out of proportion they are not the main elements in the story. Just are giving a slight view into the citizens of Eorzea's life.
Every class quest and all the storyline missions have multiple Cut scenes. I think we will see a lot more when they expand on those.
I would love to see CS based side quest, but I am not expecting much more then what we see now with side quest.
I know I know but wouldnt it be nice to have lil story cutscenes even if they dont pertain to the main story. I mean these side stories could give a glimpse of whats happening in the every day life of the citizens of Eorzea. I just expected a lil more than just a blab of text *shrug*
We will get quests with Cutscenes just for the simple fact that everyone is ultra pissed there is no cutscenes (and they are boring as hell)
I played FFXI for years and years. I have a quest log full of quests that I could not imagine trying to continue because it provides almost no information. At the end of the day, a game shouldn't require you to look up what you need to do from a third party site. I, personally, read the dialogue because I like the atmosphere, but many people don't really want to bother because they find it boring, and more importantly may not be able to get the quest and finish it in one sitting. Can you honestly say you'll remember what the quest was asking for if all the quest said was "X wants something to help clean his shirt" when you read it 2 days, a week, or longer later?
Back to the topic at hand, I hope this doesn't mean the end of CS, but if they're going to add WoW style side-quests like these appear to be, they should make the setup quick and easy to produce and save their writing and production time-budget for more substantive main and class quests, and maybe have some FFXI-style side quests that have some good storyline to them, but aren't feasible to mass produce to an extent that it would occupy the playerbase.
I like cutscenes as much as anyone, but we need to remember that actually building cutscenes takes a lot more time than just plain old text, and right now time is a luxury that SE simply doesn't have. This game is on life support, and it needs content fast, or else it'll be going the way of Auto-Assault.
When they add the advanced classes i hope they make heavy story driven quests with cut-scenes and everything in order to get your advanced class.
in ffxi everybody wanted a real journal telling what to do without going on fansites for every thing. Now it's bad. <_<
Aside this, i'll welcome any future sidequest with cutscene, but right now it's quite soon
The structure is there for a good questing system now, it simply needs to be elaborated on which is likely to come later once the more radical changes such as the battle system are taken care of.
I really hope they do make some nice cutscenes, you only have to look at the old Serpent General sidequests from FFXI to know the kind of potential there is.
