I guess their "improved detection" methods didn't do squat to address them.
The only bots that seemed to be impacted by that change were the hordes of FSH bots in Mare Lamentorum.
When I did Eureka there were 2 bots in particular who were there pretty much constantly for months.
They were 100% bots, unresponsive and when the Fate triggered they just followed a set route and single targeted each mob down. They then went on a set path to every possible spawn location in the initial given direction, one by one and used the carrot until it worked. If there weren't any other people doing the fate, they would simply single target the mobs until the bunnies died and the FATE failed, then wait 10 minutes, repeat and fail again.
Somehow SE couldn't detect bots here.
Yep, it's a lot more difficult to do than it looks like. Removing a major source of easy currency is likely to result in turning off new and returning players (although it's debated just how much so the bunny chests actually are in the grand scheme).
But the situation to be wary of is this:
Imagine if in order to strangle bots, new players have their income streams heavily curtailed as well. Instead of the fairly breezy situation gil has come to be for veterans, they have to scrimp and save to even hope to afford a house at some point, or maybe even an apartment or endgame raid gear.
Aetheryte tickets become much more important in this regard, so Hunt Trains swell, and disagreements over the handling of A/S ranks, "snipers/early pullers" etc. flare up still further now that people are actually depending on those tickets not as a convenience but as a major source of effective income.
MB prices might increase, expecting you'll make a decent penny from current content, as is the case in WoW - to take another danger from that game, greed might easily take over other aspects of the game (for instance, raiders beginning to expect payment-for-services when they help someone - especially a first timer with fewer options - clear, making the endgame atmosphere significantly more mercenary, less helpful, and in general negative).
This is mitigated, of course, by the fact that the number of things you can ONLY obtain with gil are much more limited in XIV (since in WoW every tier features the obligatory "you must spend tens of thousands of gold on these special vendor-only mats" to doubtlessly - in combination with an economy manipulated through turning off old gold spigots - spur Token movement, while in XIV, most or all of this sort of "special sauce" is acquired through uncapped Tomestones), but still. It's a less trivial matter than you'd think.
I've run into bots but I've also just run into people intentionally trying to kill others and dragging bosses away, I've seen people be openly racist, sexist and homophobic in shout chat and boy howdy have I had an insane amount of /tells from doorknobs who feel the need to "inform" you that hey, that class you changed to temporarily just to go revive a friend? it's missing the eureka armour! you're missing your eureka armour!! don't you know how bad that is!!!! go buy the armour!!!!!!!
drives me insane.
also there's a LOT of people just bickering in /shout like, non-stop. i've never seen so many people just straight up at eachother's throats. it's particularly crazy in pyros lately.
