I am dreading it. I am expecting more overly high-detail gear that dyes poorly and twinkles because the screen can't display it well, and more objects with parts that only appear as you draw close to them – which I find far more distracting and unrealistic than something that remains plain.
Some things will be added sooner than 7.0, instead of being released all at once, because doing it all at once is risky. There is a new (beta) dynamic resolution setting that is part of this already available.
It's not about what the engine can handle at all. It's about what an "average player's computer" can handle. The engine could handle far more than what it currently does and they limit it on purpose. Did you know that FF16 is using the FF14 engine because UE4 was unsuitable for their needs?Quote:
What really got me excited was a little comment he made saying that the examples shown are being tested on what the engine can handle
I'm so excited for the graphics update! It's the reason why I'll get a new PC sometime this year. :D My 7-year-old potato PC is too slow and noisy at this point. I've been waiting for the graphics card prices to drop since 2020 but at this point I believe that will never happen so I'll just suck it up and pay.
Expect any news regarding this to be revealed at fanfest, same with female hrothgar. We know it's coming next expansion but they need to save some surprises for the fanfest still.
I just wish monitor companies released monitors to my wants..,<they've largely shunned less than 30" monitors in the past years>
I'm stuck with a nonstandard less that 1080 tv.<my tower deserves better, way better.>
can't wait, but will have, to hear about the races visual upgrades/rothgal.
I'm glad you mentioned this - Because I had no idea. I thought they were still using UE4.
This actually gives me some hope that XIV could see some significant improvements in the future. I wonder if it was XVI that kicked off the improvements, and we may not have seen this stuff otherwise.
I doubt it. I think it has everything to do with them looking forward to the "next 10 years". That, combined with seeing New World, Ashes of Creation and all of the graphics adjustments a lot of people feel they "have" to make.
But the engine just isn't everything. The texture quality is low because they made low quality textures. If they made low polygon models, then the models are low polygon. The models are not as high polygon as they could be so that some models are not higher polygon than others, which was a problem in 1.0. The shaders don't look realistic because they don't code them to be realistic so that it doesn't break people's computers when 600 players gather for Chi or a hunt.
But they do some amazing things with the engine sometimes that show what they can do with it, especially in trials and all the expansion alliance raids.
Aetherochemical Research Facility
Shinryu Extreme
Amaurot
Hades
Archaeotania
E4S Phase 2
Perfect Alexander
Eden Resurrection
Dead Ends
Or even the alliance raid in the new trailer

My point is they can do all these great things. They just limit the texture and shader quality on purpose, which for some people, ruins it. Even when they improve these things, the quality from previous expansions remains.
